Guest lykoudos Posted December 30, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 30, 2006 Hello Rolo, I find an unusual admission. So beautifully completely sunk in itself, escaped the world in the underground change courses of our existence. Kind regards Wolfgang (Leica MP grey hammertone, 2,8/28; 1,4/50; 2/90)

lambroving Posted January 14, 2007 Share #8 Posted January 14, 2007 Yep. Good observation, great light and tones. Much work to print this?
Rolo Posted January 14, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted January 14, 2007 Much work to print this? William, first off, thank you for all your very nice comments. I, and I'm sure others, appreciate greatly the kind words expressed on the work posted. It is motivational. Regarding this print, it is actually one of my most difficult images to print in the wet dark room. Well spotted. The near archway needs burning in to varying degrees over its span, whilst the background was really very dark and needs protecting to avoid losing the detail which is so important to the image as far as I'm concerned. It took several attempts to be satisfied with it and then a couple of more attempts to get the thiocarbamide toning just right. Well I say just right - I don't believe that there is a 'just right' for any photo. I think there are many variations which can be different, but each look wonderful. It's the same with toning; I'll tone a couple in thio and love it then think I don't want two the same and I'll throw one in a selenium bath and watch that change into another nice piece. Best regards to all who commented. Rolo
lambroving Posted January 14, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 14, 2007 Rolo, Off-hand, I'd say you don't need a lot of motivation. Lately I haven't commented much because I comment on shots I either like or wish I could have taken as well. If I visit the Forum at all, it is for ideas which fit the way I see. My taste is not the same as many here but runs closer to yours. I'm definitely into image quality and framing. The print is good when YOU like it, since it is YOUR expression. If someone posts a shot here, I presume this is what they were after. If it fails, I say nothing. Fortunately, you give me a lot to say! I don't get out much these days, so keep providing eye candy to motivate me. And yes, I know how to print..., but I hate frigging computers. I frame in the camera, which is the other reason I use Leicas...
Rolo Posted January 14, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted January 14, 2007 Rolo, Off-hand, I'd say you don't need a lot of motivation. I don't get out much these days, so keep providing eye candy to motivate me. And yes, I know how to print..., but I hate frigging computers. I frame in the camera, which is the other reason I use Leicas... Bill, I don't need any motivation to take images and produce pictures. None at all. There's a bit of grey weather at the moment and, more importantly, short days. Another few weeks and I'll be out with my tent and my Leicas. The motivation I need is to share these images. Putting them on a forum like LUF is quite different than a personal website, or a stock library where there is little feedback. So thanks and I hope you like what's still to come.
