JonK Posted June 4, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since I got my M9 my M3 has been nearly abandoned, but I love it too much to ever sell. So, I thought about getting it tarted up with a new paint job, just for the fun of it. I was wondering if anyone has any pictures or suggestion of perhaps slightly more unusual paint jobs and vulcanite replacements. For instance, I've got a hankering for Alcantara... Any recommendations of sources for renovation with/out CLA facility very gratefully received. Next I suppose I'd have to get my "goggles" summilux 35 painted to match! JonK Posted June 4, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted June 4, 2010 Yes I see many recommendations. They don't seem to do the more exotic leather or paint combinations though, but I will give them a call. I can't find a single link for Alcantara for Ms..
bill Posted June 4, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 4, 2010 They don't do leather. They do do paint. Try cameraleather for the leather. Regards, Bill
topoxforddoc Posted June 4, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 4, 2010 Peter Grisalfi at CRR is one of the world's top Leica techs. He fettles our good Queen Betsy's Leica, so he's good enough for me. Given the fact that you have to disassemble a Leica M to do the paint job properly, I don't see how one can do it without a CLA. Personally I would have my M body painted by Peter with new vulcanite coverings (much better and more robust than Alcantara). Best wishes,
JonK Posted June 9, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted June 9, 2010 I see CRR are not taking cameras till August; I presume they are having a good holiday. Anyway, my M3 is 54 yrs old so can patiently wait a month or two more. Again, all comments gratefully received

You presume wrong... I have never known there to be less than a two month lead time on taking in work. If you wait until August, you will then be looking at October. Get it booked in if you need to, for August now. Regards, Bill

JonK Posted June 13, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted June 13, 2010 For real inspiration look at the 'Austin Powers' painted Leica on Cameraquest's website! Yup, along the lines I was originally thinking of. I checked my vulcanite and it is, amazingly, perfect so I will try to focus my thoughts on something a little more like the A La Carte colours for the paint.
