parasko Posted June 4, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I just received my M9 Passport validation from Leica UK. I placed my order online for the camera in January, and was charged at the time of placing the order. However, I only received the camera in April. My passport has come into effect from January and so I only in effect have a Leica passport of 9 months duration. I emailed Leica UK about this a couple of weeks ago and still no response. Just wanted to know if others have had a similar experience. At the time of purchase, there was discussion that Leica UK was actually offering a 2 year passport but I can't recall whether this was only anecdotal or actually appeared on a website. Is it unreasonable that I have asked Leica for a 1 year passport from the date of shipping, rather than date of order, considering some retailers actually only charge at the time of shipment? I do have email confirmation of shipping date from retailer. Does anyone have a contact person at Leica UK who I can email, due to no response from their generic email address? Thanks. dpattinson Posted June 4, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 4, 2010 seems entirely reasonable to me that the passport should commence from the date you receive the camera.
spylaw4 Posted June 4, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 4, 2010 Your Passport should be valid from the date you receive the camera, not from the date you order or even pay the full amount in advance. The Passport application form individually printed for your camera comes in the box with the camera for stamping by the dealer and for you to fill in your details. It then goes to Leica UK and you receive the actual Passport a short while later. I hesitate to ask on an open Forum about where you bought your camera, but you can PM me that if you want. I will ask did you choose to pay in advance or was that a dealer requirement? Something is definitely wrong here. Try phoning them rather than emailing 01908 256400. parasko Posted June 4, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted June 4, 2010 I purchased the camera from Robert White Photographic UK. I have no issues with this retailer. They were easy to deal with and kept me posted on status. Their policy is to charge at the time of placing the order. As there has been such international delay in receiving an M9, my circumstances surely cannot be an isolated incident and Leica should be factoring this into their Passport duration. I was asked to submit to Leica UK a receipt of payment so the passport can be validated, which I did and of course the receipt indicates January as the date of purchase. I'm more concerned that Leica has not responded to my email to help rectify the problem. I did forward to them an email from the retailer which confirms date of shipment. Not sure what else I can do unless I can find a a specific person at Leica to email to help me address this issue. Your Passport should be valid from the date you receive the camera, not from the date you order or even pay the full amount in advance. stunsworth Posted June 4, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 4, 2010 Give Leica UK a call and ask to speak to someone about a passport warranty issue. I'm sure they'll be able to sort out your problem.

wattsy Posted June 4, 2010 Share #7 Posted June 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Your Passport should be valid from the date you receive the camera, not from the date you order or even pay the full amount in advance In my experience of buying new Leica gear (which is more extensive than I would like to believe), the passport is issued to commence from the date of the invoice - not the day of delivery. If the OP paid in full back in January, Robert White will have issued an invoice on that date and Leica have presumably used that invoice to date the passport. If the OP lets Leica know the situation, I'm sure common sense will prevail and they will amend the passport. Incidentally, I was issued with a 2 year passport for my M9 bought in October. There was a thread earlier in the year about the change from 2 years to 1 year and it seems Leica UK were not entirely consistent in applying the change. topoxforddoc Posted June 4, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 4, 2010 Speak to Wendy at Leica UK. She is VERY helpful and will sort your problem out. Best wishes,
marknorton Posted June 4, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 4, 2010 The Passport should definitely run from the delivery date. When I've had an invoice dated with date of order, I've enclosed a note telling Leica UK when the Passport should run from. They haven't always got it right even then. Seems that Milton Keynes' finest set their hearts on a career in Matalan...

Date of payment is not date of purchase. The delivery date needs to be verified by your dealer. When the REPLY button is ignored phone a human being. cocker Posted June 4, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 4, 2010 I suspect "administrative error". As has been suggested, beat the technology, ignore the web, interact with a human, phone Leica! You may be surprised! People are better than systems (even though we make 'em:))
microview Posted June 4, 2010 Share #12 Posted June 4, 2010 I am sure Leica will resolve this to your satisfaction – passports have all been adjusted to one year in the UK. It would be helpful if Robert White's delivery note included a despatch date as well as its 'invoice date'.
