Nick_Yoon Posted May 30, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've just published a new book through Blurb - "Where I went, what I saw" - a collection of pictures taken during my travels over the past 5 years in places such as Istanbul, Cuba, Sicily, West Cork, Nicosia, Berlin and Cairo. Equipment used includes M6, M8 and M9 and various Leica lenses. On the Blurb book preview page click on "FULLSCREEN" to get a larger view.
Advertisement Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Hi Nick_Yoon, Take a look here "Where I went, what I saw" - my new Blurb book. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
250swb Posted May 30, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 30, 2010 Wow! Thats really good, I like your sequencing. Steve
Jeff S Posted May 30, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 30, 2010 Consistently good photographs, nicely organized. I like that you've incorporated some of the same images that were previously done in black and white in another book. Both work well. I would, however, enjoy more narrative to gain an even richer perspective on your journeys (even if placed in an appendix so as not to interrupt the flow of the photographs). After having done several Blurb books, Nick, do you have any key tips for getting the best production results (apart, of course, from having a worthy body of work to start)? Or, any key learnings from the sales end? Jeff
Nick_Yoon Posted May 30, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted May 30, 2010 Steve: I spent a lot of time on the sequencing, so thanks for noticing. Jeff, with Blurb I'd recommend that pictures should be processed for a bit of punch, perhaps a touch more contrast and saturation that you'd have for onscreen viewing, as you lose a bit going to print. B&Ws are not neutral, in my experience with the European printer the softcovers are slightly better than hardcovers. It's been suggested that you don't need the top quality of jpg for uploading (8 instead of 10 quality) but I'm paranoid about this, so I always upload the best possible quality. I also size the jpg close to the book size so that there's not much resizing to be done by Blurb's software. Selling the book is easier in person, I made my first Cuba book in conjunction with an exhibition and took orders from people who visited the exhibition. Other books have had minimal sales response. I'd like to write more too, but I find it difficult, always afraid that I'd write something too sentimental or boring.

sanyasi Posted May 30, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Great photos. Glad I have 2 trips scheduled for this year. The book makes me want to go out and take some photos. I liked the limited, but effective use of the two page bleeds to the margins.
Michael Hiles Posted May 31, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 31, 2010 Outstanding pictures - I am suprised that it is possible to see the whole book in preview mode.
Nick_Yoon Posted May 31, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted May 31, 2010 Thanks for the compliments! Outstanding pictures - I am suprised that it is possible to see the whole book in preview mode. It used to be that only the first 15 pages could be previewed. Now you have a choice of first 15, all pages or a custom selection. I choose the full preview because I've seen many previews that didn't convince me to buy the book and I would only buy a Blurb book if I could see most if not all of the book. john cleland Posted May 31, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 31, 2010 Beautifully put together Nick - love all of the shots but the Cairo ones stand out as some of your best work (in my humble opinion). All the best - John
