The volcano and M9 deliveries to USA

It looks like deliveries of M9s to the USA have dried up for the past six weeks or so - ever since the volcano in Iceland erupted. Does anyone know if there have been any shipments of M9s to Leica NJ since then? It seems to be back-ordered everywhere.

Same thing occurred to shipments bound for Australia. I was told the items were simply re-routed to European dealers. I'd expect a complementary drought in Europe as US and other overseas dealers get their backlog delivered.

I doubt its the volcano. In the UK we recently had a delivery of batteries that were back ordered five months, and talking to the dealer the M9 drought is the same here. After the initial drought pre Xmas all orders were eventually fulfilled early this year, but now the waiting list is as bad as ever it was with nothing coming through.

Being a native Icelander, I can report that the Eyjafjallajökull (try pronouncing that :o) volcano hast stopped erupting for the time being. So grab your M9 NOW! - because history tells us the beast can start again off and on for many months to come - or it could be finished for now. No one knows.

Shipments to the USA dried up 3 weeks BEFORE the volcano. Leica has latched onto 5 days of totally closed European airspace (from April 16 to April 20) as an excuse for not making and delivering cameras for 6 weeks to the US. Seems like some are trickling in now with larger shipments expected in a week or two.

Why? - one can only guess. Parts shortage? With the sudden deliver of separate batteries to dealers, maybe Leica didn't have some key parts to complete cameras and stopped camera production. That would free up batteries to be sent elsewhere.

The next quesion is when will lens production meet demand? Dealers won't even venture a guess as to when the popular lenses will be shipped again.

Hi

At local dealer this Thursday asked about delivery from order, answer '3 months'. So it is not getting shorter, answer 'longer, more people are ordering than earlier, Leica making them as fast as possible...'

Their might be availability glitches as well.;)

I believe your dealer on a couple of points. The wait in the US in February, perhaps only for my dealer, was about 4 to 6 weeks. I also believe the waiting list to be growing now with 4 months delay. However, I am convinced that production slowed drastically in late March into May. There is no other way to explain why three large US dealers, including David Farkas reporting for Dale Photo directly on this site, reported they did not get any M9s from Late March until Mid-May.

In another couple of months, you may also see the sensational new Ash Anniversary Edition signifying The Rise From the Ashes --- the era of high profitability. :D

I called a number of dealers around the US and it seems that no one has received new shipments from New Jersy since early April. Does anyone know if there are production problems in Solms? Is anyone aware of deliveries to US dealers since April?

Is there anything on the horizon?
