panganibanMD Posted May 22, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) After months of endless searching, I have finally gotten my hands on a Digilux 2. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a listing from a fellow forum member that was selling one of his two D2's. In anticipation of its arrival on Tuesday, I was debating on how I should dress her up. I have admired all of the examples of the D2's that have had work done by Morgan at cameraleather, and initially this was going to be what I was planning to do. The problem is that I also have a Digilux 3. And being a bit obsessive-compulsive, that would mean that I would need to have both cameras wrapped with the same type and color of leather. The dilemma here is that the D3 has a contoured grip. I assume that the contour is part of the synthetic-rubber material that has to be removed, and Morgan cannot guarantee that he would be able to re-build the grip when he wraps it. So a possible solution that I have come up with is to get matching Luigi's half cases for the D2 and D3. Has anyone here used one of these cases with their D2? I know that a lot of the M users love them, but I was hoping to get some opinions from those that may have used one on their D2/D3. A bonus with this option is that I would be able get a matching case for my D-Lux 4.

farnz Posted May 22, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2010 First of all, PanganibanMD, welcome to the forum! I have the Luigi D2 half-case (which is part of my Luigi D2 'ever-ready' case) and it is exquisitely made in very high quality leather - as all of Luigi's products are. It fits the body of the D2 very well and offers good grip while providing a nicer look than the D2's native rubber skin. I have two D2's and one of them has been recovered by Morgan in Black Lizard so I don't use the half-case with that one. The other still has its native rubber skin but I very rarely use the half-case or ever-ready case with that one either unless it needs a little extra protection when it gets thrown into a non-camera bag. Tbh, although the case is superb and enhances the camera's look (not something I think much about), it adds some bulk and weight to such a light camera so it rarely makes it out of the house. Pete. Thanks for the kind welcome. Out of curiosity, how much bulk and weight does the half case add? Is it that noticeable? The more I look at the pictures on Luigi's website, the more I fall in love with the look of his cases.

Not really very much but it's a light camera and thick leather so for me it makes a difference - others may not notice it. Pete.
panganibanMD Posted May 23, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted May 23, 2010 Another thought....has anyone opted for the tripod screw with their half case? I don't use a tripod very often, but in the off chance that I would, it seems as though this would be a good feature to have. I am guessing that the screw fits into the screw hole on the base plate.
