I was using Eclipse sensor swaps to clean the sensor using Eclipse fluid. I inspected the cleaning process with my old Leitz stereo microscope. These swaps are not very efficient ( I used more than a box for 2 cleanings). I found that the Eclipse sensor swaps leave a lot of fibers at the sensor perimeter as they are touching with their sides the shutter. Also they are not cleaning the outer zones. Do the Visible Dust (orange as it works with alcohols) V-swaps 1.0x work better or should I make some myself?

I tried the orange Visible Dust corner swaps and a single drop of Eclipse was over saturating them. Any recommendations?

Yes its easy to do. For the corner swabs I put a drop of fluid onto a Q Tip/cotton bud and then touch the swab to that to get some fluid on it. I tried the full size swabs but am now using up my stock of APS-C swabs as Jaap suggests, they do seem to be much more effective. But even after getting rid of any sticky dust with swabs I always have to finish off with the Arctic Butterfly brush.

I went through exactly the same process on one of my M9s this afternoon.

I started off with the Arctic Butterfly to remove some dust.

I then moved onto Eclipse E2 fluid & full frame size swabs for some oil blobs on the sensor.

Two things happened:

1.The Eclipse solution did not get rid of the stubborn oil spots on the sensor.

2.The Eclipse swabs left a fair amount of lint behind.

So I went back in and used the Visible Dust APS-C swabs & Smear Away & Sensor Clean solutions, problem immediately solved!

Far less lint left behind by the Visible Dust swabs.

Finished it all off with the Arctic Butterfly.

Hi Anders,

This is the webpage is for Visible Dust orders for European customers, I order from here.

sensor cleaning

I'm sticking with Visible Dust products, they're far superior to the Eclipse products in my opinion and experience.

I use a Rocket blower and if that's not enough, the Pentax O-ICK1 cleaning kit

I am also using a similar cleaning kit: Sensor Vu Cleaner. It works but some particles are only get removed through wet cleaning. I use it when traveling. The sticky tape like pad is not cleaning sufficiently the silicone surface but washing the silicone with detergent and several rinses with distilled water restores them well.
