Hi

My start is in the Northern Quarter, as it's about a 25 min. walk from my flat, I'll lunch at home and could meet up in a pub / bar / coffee shop if others want to.

Think I'll stop halfway and see the exhibition at the Art Gallery on the way though.

Hope that you enjoyed your day .

Michael

Yes I did, Michael. It was nice to meet some new faces and reacquaint with others and thank you to the forum's Mancunians and others for making me feel so welcome. A good choice of venues by Steve too.

The CityCo photo event was interesting without reaching the spectacular. Andrew Brooks hosted mine and it was a demonstration of how he gradually builds up his complex images using 100 or so individual shots using HDR techniques to contrive a final image like these. HDR doesn't particularly appeal to me but this showed me a new application and produces some spectacular results and perhaps pushes photography more into an art form with this method.

Tony (PintPot) and I bumped into each other later on and after comparing notes it sounded like we'd had similar experiences albeit with different hosts.

Would I do it again? Prrrobably ...

For the record it was 25 degrees or so with clear blue skies and blazing sunshine and the Mancunians explained (without exaggeration I feel sure :p) that it was a little parkier and than usual for this time of year.

All in all I had a very pleasant day.

Pete.

If there had been time we could have taken you to the lemon groves in Salford - it's too early to see the grape harvest being sent down the ship canal to Liverpool by barge - but alas you had to leave in order to try and get arrested - without success it seems.

The idea you mentioned in the cafe of producing Hockney like panoramas appeals, it should be easy to do in Photoshop with layers. Many years ago a friend who's an art teacher attempted to assemble something similar on a pub table using 6x4 prints she'd taken in Madrid. Mind you, I think Hockney got there first.

To anyone who finds themselves hungry on Deansgate I can recommend the Topkapi Palace resto. The lunch menu is £7.50 for two courses and a drink.

Oh, but they turned up mob-handed, as you can see, and it was only down to pure skill and stealth that I continue to walk the streets a free man. :p

Pete.

Sounds like a good time was had. Unfortunately I could not attend because my best vest was in the pawn shop and I was told that I could not go out without it on such a cold day.

Did the cops turn up? Can we now photograph willy nilly, without fear of having to give an account? Can I send my "not a terrorist" t-shirt to the people's museum.....?
