Thoughts on Buying R Lenses for Investment

I'm just curious as to your thoughts on buying some R mount lenses for investment. With the M9, we've seen a large increase in the demand for Leica M lenses, those 50mm lenses and 90mm lenses. And with Leica promising a digital solution for R lenses, my instinct tells me that this is a good time to buy up some R lenses, but again curious as to other people's thoughts. Thx.

Welcome to the forum !! Your thought on R lenses has emerged in this forumfrom some other people... and it has became also matter of some joking (see http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/barnacks-bar/125197-oustanding-news-2-m9-each.html)... given that R lenses have had a significant drop in prices after last year's Leica statement that "there won't be a R10) : but the (undetailed) statement from the same official source that "they are thinking to a solution for R users" as well as announcements from other vendors (see Sony NEX 3/5) which go in the direction of a future (not far) generation of mirrorless Full Frame cameras with Electronic Viewfinder, make to think that the final destiny of Leica R lenses is not necessary to be collectibles for the shelves. Prices are still good, and many are still top class performers... and, if one hasn't definitely abandoned film, a honest R body is also easy to find for not too much money...

I doubt that a future R lens "solution" will entice many into the system - it is likely to be mainly of interest to those who already have R lenses. Unless you are going to use the lenses (what an eccentric thought that is:rolleyes:), I'm not sure that buying R lenses is much of an investment opportunity.

I tend to agree... maybe some of them could be resold from slightly more in some years from now... but this can be speculated on many other photo collectibles...

Seriously speaking, I simply think that some good R lens can be, now, a good buy which some day, can result in a fine user item.
