Anyone using the Artist & Artisan M3 style strap?

I use it on my Digilux 2 and another classic A&A strap on my M9. I like them a lot.

You could cut a piece of string to model how it will look and feel.

Thanks for the responses. I'll adjust my Leica strap to the same length in the morning and see what I think. I actually like the Leica strap because I use a bag that just barely fits my M8, and the Leica strap fits well into the available space.

Well the A+A M3 is made of "saddle leather" and "more stiff", so it will maybe not fit in your bag? So maybe with that bag you have to stick with a nylon strap.

Does anyone have experience, if this leather strap slips easily, which I would prefer ?

I like to carry the camera bandolier style and want to lift it easily when I take a shot. Unfourtunately most straps are constructed not to slip and the rubber pad on my M9 Leica strap cannot be removed.

The A+A M3 leather strap would be nice, but I'm not sure, if it would be slippery enough. Or does one have to take a nylon, just the STRAP from leicagoodies might be too long, the A+A cloth strap too short (and cloth - no nylon) and the Y-strap too red.(;-))

Have a look at the offerings from Luigi...

There should be a prize for anyone who can find the link to the straps that he sells - hint, you need to click on the 'cases' link in the top left of the page. His web site is in need of a total revamp, but people have been saying that for years.

As for his straps, I have one but I don't think I'll buy another. I bought mine on a whim, but I really don't see what advantage it has for me over the Leica nylon strap - I find it a fraction too short for one thing.

If it's the standard Leica nylon strap the rubber pad can be cut away.

Really? That would be nice! - It is indeed the standard strap that came with my M9, but to me the rubber and the nylon seem to be coalesced or glued.

I got two of those Artisan&Artist* Straps which are 105 cm long (instead of 90 cm). That fits better across the shoulder and breast - for me. I've met bigger and longer persons where it's just too small even with 105 cm.

They come stiff, turn soft in a month and are really nice. The neckpad tends to get a life of its own, sliding back and fort. So it can either be cut away (never thought of that before) or stitched to stay in place.

I use one on an M9 and one on an D2, very much the feel of the standard Leica strap that comes with the M9, but a little more deluxe and cow-feel.

Thorsten, thank you for the biggest laugh of the day ;)

I have the A&A M3 style strap on my M9. It looks very nice, and is very well made. The leather was not too stiff, even right out of the box. I like it.

That being said, it is a little short if you use it as a shoulder strap (rather than hanging the camera around your neck). More concerning is the propensity of the strap to slide without warning from your shoulder. I caught the camera the first time it happened; since then whenever I hang it on my shoulder I keep my hand on the strap.

I am considering replacing the strap with an Upstrap because of the lack of "grippiness" of the A&A strap, but for now I think I will just be very careful. . .

I use them and have the short one on the M8 and longer one on the M9. I would say that the short one is in fact a little short but I still find them much more comfortable than the leica straps whose shoulder pad can be really uncomfortable in the summer when it rubs against your neck.
