geesbert Posted December 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know it's a bit sad, but I really do have caring feelings for my M9. I even started to pimp it, something which I wouldn't even start to think about doing to my other cameras... 1.) It's all black, 'M9' removed with a toothstick, black dot. 2.) I removed the shutter button, dissassembled it and polished all parts, now it's much smoother. I already had done that for my M8, I just transfered the button to the M9. See the brassing? I like that! 3.) the camera strap is a silky soft old nylon strap from the camera shop's junk display, cut to perfect length, equipped with Leica buckles, secured by tiny cable ties to get the overhang as short as possible, that actually looks neater than it sounds. 4.) my 50mm pre-asph lux got a summicron tab, which makes focussing even much better. plan for the future: maybe recover it, the genuine cover looks cheap, I have a few samples of cameraleather here, but haven't decided yet. jtorrents Posted December 16, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 16, 2009 Please, could you explain in more detail how did you to get a smoother shutter button? In my M8 I can feel an annoying gritty feel. My M6 feels smooth as butter... thanks in advance. Joaquin
geesbert Posted December 16, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted December 16, 2009 you have to get the special wrench to get the button assembly out. you get that here: Flexi Clamps Verfgbar von Micro-Tools Europe the shutter button consists of three parts held together by a tiny screw. undo that and the silver stud comes loose. I polished that with a nail buffer to a perfect shine, I did that while watching a DVD, halveway throught the film I was done. get it all together again, screw it in and voilà: smooth as butter! JeffreyTotaro Posted December 16, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 16, 2009 Looks great! Did you need to re-paint the M9 or just remove the white paint? Did Leica do the dot for you or can that be a DIY project too? Thanks!
geesbert Posted December 16, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted December 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just removed the white paint with a tooth stick. The black dot is from DAG, easy to exchange. I really hope the black paint gets a bit duller with time. I much prefered black chrome.

JeffreyTotaro Posted December 16, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 16, 2009 I read about using a technique of trying to rotate the Red dot in order to remove it. Is that what you did? Thanks!
geesbert Posted December 16, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted December 16, 2009 yeah, two bamboo tooth picks did the trick!
Chistoso Posted December 16, 2009 Share #13 Posted December 16, 2009 When you remove the red dot, is there black paint underneath?
geesbert Posted December 16, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted December 16, 2009 yes, but there is also the triangular hole for the RF adjustment. no chance to leave that open.

brt3 Posted December 16, 2009 Share #17 Posted December 16, 2009 yes, but there is also the triangular hole for the RF adjustment. no chance to leave that open. Wish I could find a thin but nicely made metal disc in Steel Gray, remove the red dot, and install the new one in it's place...
sfokevin Posted December 17, 2009 Share #18 Posted December 17, 2009 Wish I could find a thin but nicely made metal disc in Steel Gray, remove the red dot, and install the new one in it's place... I recall there is a pewter disc with black Leica but Leica will not release them readily as a spare part so they are hard to get - that would be my replacement choice. Peter Lea Posted December 17, 2009 Share #19 Posted December 17, 2009 Could you please go into a little more detail about how you removed the red dot and inserted a black one? I want to do this when mine finally arrives. Thanks Peter
gwelland Posted December 17, 2009 Share #20 Posted December 17, 2009 I removed my red dot by pressing down with my thumb on to the dot and letting the body heat transfer over & then rotate side to side until the glue bond loosens. It takes a while but was effective for me and no sharp instruments needed.
