icemanhk Posted May 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello My M9 was delivered on Dec 2009, I found it always problem yellow cast image, esepecially under mixed, halogen or energy saved bulbs. I upgraded to FW1.1.6, posted questions to the forum and no concrete answer was given. Therefore, I treated mine is normal and tune the WB in captureone manually. However, I compared with my friend's M9, delivered in last week, his M9 gives him a more accurate WB, in the same scenario, with the same lens. It seems that my M9 really has something wrong inside, perhaps I have to send it back to check. Anyone has the same experience? Thanks.

jaapv Posted May 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 9, 2010 You cannot compare eco light shots, as the things cycle through the spectrum. No two shots have exactly the same colour balance.
zeitz Posted May 9, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 9, 2010 Just use the white balance slider in your raw converter to fix the issues.
icemanhk Posted May 10, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted May 10, 2010 I use manual setting and tune WB in captureone, but my friend M9 produces pictures about 1000k lower than mine in the same scenario, which look more accurate. I wonder if Leica has changed something or it is defect of my M9.
arthury Posted May 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 11, 2010 Like what Jaap said, if the light source is emitting light across a segment of the spectrum and cycle thru it, it will probably cause AWB to go nuts --- even a Nikon/Canon pro body will not do well in such mixed lighting. cheewai_m6 Posted May 11, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 11, 2010 but why would it be different on his friend's identical camera with an identical lens? are you saying that given the same scenario again, the same camera would give different white balance on different shots? icemanhk Posted May 11, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted May 11, 2010 It would not be different - if one manages to shoot at exactly the same point of time in a 50 Hz cycle. So, my yellow cast problem is because I always shoot at the time interval of being yellow, and my friend always have it at normal interval?
jaapv Posted May 11, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 11, 2010 That is not what I am saying - I am saying that you can only compare WB rendering with a constant light source. Are you running the same firmware btw?
icemanhk Posted May 11, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted May 11, 2010 That is not what I am saying - I am saying that you can only compare WB rendering with a constant light source. Are you running the same firmware btw? Same firmware, same setting. We shot same object using same lens, but my pictures were obviously yellowish. We changed lens to have test again, same result. I know I can manual set WB or adjust in lightroom / captureone. But the WB of my friend's M9 is good in the test, I suspect either my M9 has problem, or Leica has changed something. Mine was delivered in Dec-09, and I have the AWB question since first day.
jaapv Posted May 11, 2010 Share #12 Posted May 11, 2010 And what do the cameras do under sunlight, or other constant light sources ?
icemanhk Posted May 11, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted May 11, 2010 And what do the cameras do under sunlight, or other constant light sources ? I will ask him to try together later, and update this thread. Thanks.
