stevem7 Posted April 30, 2010 Share #21 Posted April 30, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have owned or shot with every 50 made for Leica. What do I keep on hand? The 50 Summicron. I have shot thousands of images with it on the M9 and hundreds on film. Not one image I have shot has shown any flare. I do not use any filters though. The 50 cron is crisp and as someone else pointed out it has the Leica "look" of the older classic photographs. With film it is special IMO. I have the latest version BTW. The Lux is also superb but renders colors a little differently as well as giving you a different look. I love both but prefer the cron overall for its size, its rendering and its silky focus. The lux always seem to have stiff focus! Cant go wrong with either, just go by the pros and cons of each and decide.
Advertisement Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Hi stevem7, Take a look here Real world differences: 50 lux vs 50 cron. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted April 30, 2010 Share #22 Posted April 30, 2010 I own both and the latest 50/1.4 pre-asph as well. The 50/1.4 asph is sharper at f/1.4 and f/2 to the point that doing portraits of not so young persons pose a problem with it. In fact i don't use it any more for this purpose. I much prefer the pre-asph 50/1.4 at f/1.4 or the Cron 50/2 at f/2 for that. The focusing ring of my 50/1.4 asph is less smooth than the latters' as well. Otherwise the 50/1.4 asph is a fantastic lens if sharpness at f/1.4 and f/2 is of paramount importance to the photographer.
