So it would ALMOST be like using the R tube on the visoflex with a 22228 adapter, that will also not focus to infinity but allow closer focussing. Any ideas thoughts?

Could be... probably not the same.. but M tube is shorter than R tube, and 14182 is surely longer than 22228, so can be R (11906) + 22228 nsdf M (11905) + 14182..but this is of no great significance... let's say that if you have a Telyt with R mount and a 22228, you get a "someway macro" lens and an "infinity-only" lens (22228 direct on M, no Viso in the middle).

Of course, with a M8/9 one can go on trial-by-error with 22228 only... check the LCD image then adjust focusing.... :D (I tried this way with my Olympia Sonnar 250 with Contarex-to-M adapter... great lens,,, but VERY boring... :()

I have R lenses and want to use them on my M till the solution shows up or till I am able to spring for a Sony A850 and change one of the mount tubes over to the sony mount. But till then I wanna use them on my Visoflex. M tubes or are not showing up and those long lenses that are showing up in a M mount - 2 on the bay now, one is buy now like 2500.00 and other is around 6,000.00 for a 400mm that you can get in a R mount for 450.00 to 900.00. I don't think those on the bay will sell for that kind of cash. My first M mount a few years back used was under 400 dollars. I even have a wanted add on the forum, buy sell no luck there

Call Leica USA and ask if they can convert the R mount tube to Viso.

The R tube would have to be cut shorter, may be possible would loose the filter slot but if I remember right the M tube does not have a filter slot.

I will call them and see if it can or has bin done.

Thanks Doug.

Just called I did could not get threw so sent them a email. Jan

Doug,

I am looking at the R tube right now that would give me a M mount but because the R tube is longer than the M it still would not allow me to focus to infinity..

Jan

I've had both Viso and R mount tubes (I no longer have the Viso tube). The only functional difference is the rotating camera-end mount. When I used the 14167 Viso-to-R adapter with the Viso mount tube infinity focus was not a problem.

The leica 14182 tube they say that with that tube on the 400 or 560 on a R camera you can not focus to infinity, well because the r tube is longer even if the mounts where changed than a m tube it would be just like using the tube on the r camera only it would be on a visoflex. Will not focus to infinity.

I really would try if they email me back that something can be done.

The leica 400 and 560 and even the scope will focus with the viso on a M9 but not to infinity.

The R mount tube is longer than the Viso mount tube because the rotating part of the tube is longer on the R version. The flange on the Viso version tube is the only thing to the rear of the rotation point. The additional length of the R mount plus the additional length of the 22228 would prevent infinity focus, just as if you had used the 14182 or any other extension tube.

I don't know who "they" is but from personal experience using and repairing the f/6.8 and f/5.6 Telyts over the last 30 years I know this equipment inside & outside: if Leica can replace the R end of the tube with the Viso flange, no cutting will be needed, the filter slot will still be there, and it will focus to infinity on the Visoflex.

Jan,

I believe the filter slot in the previous post's referenced images is just to the right of the M Tube labeling.

On my copy of the 400 f/6.8 M version you just slide back the little cover and there is the filter slot.
