dkCambridgeshire Posted April 26, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted April 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The May 2010 BJP monthly magazine just published features Jonathan Eastland's three page Leica X1 review. He praises the image results obtainable with the camera but is critical of the ergonomics eg the awkward manual focus function and the too lightly tensioned dials. Missed frames caused by slow autofocus are also noted. I hope that BJP might consider a long term test of the X1 in a future issue with more emphasis on image results - rather than describing the design origins of the Leica body shape. Advertisement Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Hi dkCambridgeshire, Take a look here Jonathan Eastland's BJP magazine X1 review. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted April 26, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted April 26, 2010 Trouble is, if you've missed frames due to slow autofocus, or have out of focus images because of awkward manual focus control, that's a bit tricky. Â I do hope that Leica can get these issues sorted.
jsrockit Posted April 26, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted April 26, 2010 I'm with Andy here. We all know the IQ is great, so there is no need to go into that so much. I think it is a review's job to tell people the short-comings of a camera honestly. The AF on the X1 is slow and the manual focus is poorly implemented. I knew this before spending the $1850 on the X1. However, imagine your disappointment if you bought one without knowing this info. It is still my favorite camera, but if this had properly implemented focus, it would be a classic.
Ned Hamilton CA Posted April 26, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted April 26, 2010 Where/when did you get an X1 for $1850?

jsrockit Posted April 26, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted April 26, 2010 I bought mine from Austria about 2 months ago. With exchange rate (Euro to US Dollar), it ended up being cheaper.

diogenis Posted April 26, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted April 26, 2010 No, but you must ask the shop to prepare it for exporting outside EU. Then, either you pay the VAT there, but ask it back when in the customs prior leaving, or you don't have to pay it at all bu I don't know which of the two is valid. jsrockit Posted April 26, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted April 26, 2010 If you buy one from Europe and they ship it to US, do you have to pay Europian VAT? Â No. The only charge I got was a foreign conversion / transaction fee from my CC company... about $50.00. By the way, that was $1850 with 100 euros shipping.
