I want to oput my 46mm B&W linera polarizer on this 24 Elmar, but that's inpossible given the design of the new lens hood that come with the camera. Any issues in NOT using the lens hood to take photos with the pol on??

HI There

Well, if you're asking for experience, I don't ever use the lens hoods on any of my wide leica lenses (except the WATE) - they're big and they obstruct the viewfinder, and I don't find them that effective for reducing flare anyway . . . If I'm shooting into the sun I'll shade the lens with my hand.

I don't have the 24 elmar, but if I did, then I wouldn't use a lens hood!

Yes, I have the Leica pol but I really don't like it. It's awkward and unwieldy compared to just a screw on pol, which I HAVE figured out how to use more or less using the metering LEDS in the camera as cues when I am getting the proper effect. I have the Leica pol on Ebay now for sale.

i've been using the 35 summilux lens hood on my 28 summicron for several years on my m8..the habit of using it has continued to the m9 but it causes some appreciable vignetting. i don't dislike it but now i prefer to use the 28 without any hood (unless it's really, really sunny). i have found noticeable fall off of contrast towards edges without a lens hood on overcast days. again, not overly bothered.
