lincoln_m Posted April 22, 2010 Share #23 Posted April 22, 2010 Hi, After seeing Leica's add for the Vlux20 with black body and red dot and silver lens they are making the Black body silver lens combo cool again. The 1924 Leica Standard had black body with silver (Nickel) lenses and that looked cool. I'll attach the Vlux 20 pic and make one of my M7 with 35f2asph silver at the weekend. I have a silver 35mm to go with my silver MP (&M2) but my 50mm lenses are black. I was almost going to cough up nearly double the original price of the silver lens just for a black version but this Vlux add has saved the day. Others should post their Black Body Silver lens pics to make this an "I love my silver on black body" thread so we can become more at home with the matching? Regards, Lincoln Someone pointed out that a black lens on a silver body with brown leather covering did not work and only a silver lens would work. I guess this is 2 colours good 3 colours bad idea. lincoln_m Posted April 24, 2010 Share #24 Posted April 24, 2010 M7 with tape over name and red dot but silver lens and softrelease to keep the silver on black theme, loaded with TMAX400 B&W file of course. Colour slide film goes in the chrome MP. I'm slowly getting used to this silver on black thing. It makes the camera look more like a working tool than a collectors item. Sorry Jaapv, but your cameras' colour schemes both the silver snake skin leather trousers and the red hot-pants are not to my liking, but it is a personal thing. The silver snake leather would, I think, look better on a silver body but the M9 is not silver but grey so I understand ( I've not seen an M9 in the flesh so it is a little hard to tell). The Red leather, and the other plain coloured leathers, are just too loud and proud for me, and might get too much attention. Maybe that is the idea? All the best, Lincoln Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted April 24, 2010 Author Share #25 Posted April 24, 2010 Nope- the red leather is just for fun - it is my backup body anyway. The grey snakeskin looks like a a bit of contrast on the screen, I admit, but in three-dimensional reality it is a very harmonious combination. I have a grey leather M8 as well on bright chrome, but I like the combo on black paint better.
wilfredo Posted April 28, 2010 Share #26 Posted April 28, 2010 In all honesty, why should a silver lens on a black body be an issue? Any Leica lens and factory color body combo looks fine, and gets the job done. I do realize however that color choices have nothing to do with photography but some of you guys really like that stuff, and that's O.K. too. If it makes your day to walk out into the world with a red Leica, so be it.
stephan_w Posted April 29, 2010 Share #27 Posted April 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) thank you for sharing those photos. Almost all of my lenses are chromed, and I find it not very well fitting to the black body (and the grey body is awful anyway). Vice versa is not so bad, as the black covering of a chromed body is a better match. I'm not sure yet if I like your combo (as I like the original covering of the M9 very much), but the most interesting is to see that you can let engrave the top of the camera (personally, I would let make an engraving similar to the MP-style). May i ask what such an engraving will cost?
