Anticipation, anticipation, anticipation. :rolleyes::D

Learn your camera, understand its capabilities and limits and compensate for them with the wetware between your ears.

I don't doubt that the X1 can produce stunning images, but it appears to be the photographic equivalent of the Starfighter; if you don't respect it, understand it and adapt to it, then it will bite you. If you treat it like an ordinary PHD you will crash and burn. If you harmonise with it you will get the best from it.

Regards,

Bill

it is possible but frienkly as much as I like the X1 regarding action it just sucks.

with the E-P2 is 3times as easy to catch action, with the D700 10 times.

So Leica give us that Firmware upgrade that the x1 gets at least close to the m4/3s.

By the way the m4/3 also offer c-af - I wouldnt mind if the x1 offered that option as well-or did I oversee it.

for anything else I really do like the X1.

I don't think that's going to happen. The X1 isn't in the same performance league with the m4/3 cameras due to its design, and that isn't software. The camera will always be sluggish.

It is said the sensor can not be read out as fast as m4/3 but rumours say thatit can and will be improved somewhat. If it really happens and how much we dont know.

Personally I am still hoping to get some improvement.

I shot just a few frames yesterday at our Wisconsin Ironman competition. Runners were coming directly toward me at close range and every frame was acceptably sharp. Like Bill said, if you learn to work with the camera you can avoid missing shots due to slow AF. In this case, I just pre-focused on a point on the street, then held the shutter half way down until the runners were at the right spot.

My dog chasing my wife... We were brushing her outside so there was fur floating through the air (blur on the left side by her foot). I set ISO400 and continuous mode with AF.

No disrespect to you personally, but IMHO, those are pretty awful images (certainly not worthy compared to pictures you have in your gallery). For what seems like perfect day conditions, the X1 should have absolutely no problems taking brilliant action shots. And the terrible banding of the sky? Some bad compression software?

You are absolutly right!

I see the pics on the forum are really bad. On my computer they look good as on my website.

I do not know what happened, It must be the software.

Thanks for your input and sorry for the bad pictures!

Did you follow the Forum guidelines as to size? You shouldn't be getting anything like that, unless of course Andreas has found some way of downgrading non-photo-forum posted images.

Skate park with the X1...AF on a spot anticipating skater. Some shutter lag, still was able to get some fast action - this was not someone half running!!
