Advertisement Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Hi sm23221, Take a look here Which is better: 'Cron 50 f/2 or Elmar 50 f/2.8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
alun Posted April 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 17, 2010 I like the weight and ergonomics of the Elmar and of the two can use it much faster than I can the Summicron. But I prefer the rendition of the Summicron: it has a richness and subtlety of rendition that I don't believe the Elmar quite matches.
maurometallo Posted April 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 17, 2010 I agree with Alun, although I'm not the most qualified Leica user for the judgement: I've been using a 50mm Cron on my M4-P for 25years as my only lens...
bill Posted April 17, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 17, 2010 Elmar - two reasons - it is small, therefore it is on my camera, and my camera is with me. The best lens in the world is useless to you if it is too bulky to carry. Secondly I love the rendition. Simple as that. The (slightly) lower speed is not a problem in practice. tobey bilek Posted April 17, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 17, 2010 They are inchangeable if you are talking the 1950 contemporaries. If you are talking the recently discontinued 50 2.8, it lives on my camera to the detriment of perhaps 8 other 50 mm Leica 50`s I own.
