I was actually interested in the Nocti, 21 and 24 lux. All three were absent, although every other lens was on hand- just my luck.

I'm booked for the Philly show in May. Let's hope the Nocti, 21, and 24 lux are there--that's a large part of the draw for me, moreso than the M9. . . .

Cheers,

Will

Hope you get to see them. My problem is that I have nowhere close to check them out. There is a Nocti in town, but they will not open it and let you see it unless you purchase it, and I really am not inclined to lay out 10k without seeing the thing. I traveled almost two hours to get to the Wash DC show- maybe I just need to go three hours and go to NY.

Terry - does the store have a return policy? If so, just purchase it to try out and return it after. It seems like a legit way to try the lens out, and if it doesn't work for your type of shooting, then it's a legit reason for you to return it. Seems kind of stupid for the shop not to even let you try it before buying. Of course if you drop the lens, then you need to pay for it. But if they were to mount the lens for you and let you take a couple shots, it's not a big risk.

When I bought the M9. they made me put on gloves before I handled it- in case I changed my mind after holding it. Looked kin of silly in the shop with white gloves on. They are also worried about marks on the lens mount- maybe they are concerned if a collector were to buy it?

I didn't push on the Nocti, but with expensive lenses in the past, they do charge a 25% restocking fee. I didn't ask (at some point you just go somewhere else) but I assume the same for this lens. That's why several years ago I started making my expensive lens purchases at B & H and Adorama- actually, that is where they recommended I go for the 50 lux when I tried to order it through them. But this is old news. Ran into a dealer 30 minutes south of me at the Roadshow that I may try out. I get the feeling they like to sell Leica products.

Jason who runs the roadshow usually brings a handful (understatement) of Leica M9 bodies in grey and black, an S2 and a complete range of lenses including the 21, 24 and Nocti. As the show is several hours and with break, I see nothing stopping you from doing an extensive test shoot with the lenses.

As were were told at the Washington DC show, is was evidently running concurrent with another event, and they split the equipment; hence, no 21, 24 or Nocti at the DC show.

I have to say it was interesting to play with the WATE and Frankenfinder.

Great to hear there was equipment to look at. Were there any M9s actually for sale or 50 Summilux's or 90 Summicron's for sale? Did they say when they actually planned to deliver such products in sufficient numbers to meet demands?

It's a seminar for owners and potential owners of M9, not a traveling factory shop. So no, there were no sale from the bag :D or question or promise of anything.

And it's not a seminar about the individual lenses. They're there to play with but is not part of the general agenda.

True, but it was billed as an opportunity to handle particular lenses, namely the noctilux.

edkwan, they will email you a few days before with the location. Just hang on..

As far as the lenses, in Seattle, every lens was there. I played with and took every Lux back to my table and screwed around with it. There was an M9 for everyone that didn't have one and the S2 was there if you cared. They were so generous with the lenses that you could have walked out with one if you wanted... except I don't think they were too worried about this particular demographic of over 60+ year old white upper class males stealing anything or getting too far with them.

Yeah, after I saw the very first picture of the thread, I asked myself How can be there only seniors?! It must be slow slow:)

Guess we were strange in Washington DC. Easily half of us were under 60, and many well under 60, but, all men. Should have brought my daughter, who is a B & W film kind of girl to mix it up.

I attended the roadshow event in Boston at the end of April. While the program was well thought out, to walk a beginner through using the M9 system, all the menus, plus some ideas on how to make the most of what this camera can do-- the main attraction for me was the chance to actually get to use an M9 for an extended period of time, and of course, as others have mentioned, get to try out all the lenses they had on hand.

I've got an M9 and 50mm f1.4 Summilux on order since early April, and from what I've heard there from the local Leica Rep, sadly enough seems like I'll be waiting a while, perhaps even longer for the Summilux. The Leica rep there blamed the Volcano, but also said they hadn't had any shipments in the 3 weeks previous.

Of course, the effect of using the camera for a few hours, I didn't want to give it back. I'm a longtime film photographer, having used Mamiya Sekor, Olympus, Hassleblad for many years, and the simple nature of the M9 is really quite something.

Also, local Boston area photographer Michael Hintlian spoke of his use of (film) Leicas on a long term project to document the 'Big Dig' back about 10 years ago (Amazon.com: Digging: The Workers Of Boston's Big Dig (9781889833927): Michael Hintlian, Frederick Salvucci: Books) Very interesting stuff.

The main effect of this was for me to dig out my old Hassleblad 503cx and go over to EP Levine's new location in the Boston suburbs and pick up some BW 120 film, and some chemicals and start shooting.

I'd be curious to hear any other intelligence about when cameras might start appearing in the US in the coming months.
