Robert J Posted April 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could anyone tell me what is the purpose of the small plastic disc inset into the top cover just behind the shutter speed dial?

earleygallery Posted April 12, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 12, 2010 You're not referring to the flash pc socket are you?
Robert J Posted April 12, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted April 12, 2010 No,this is a plain plastic disc inset into the top surface of the top cover directly to the rear of the shutter speed dial.It is about the diameter of a pencil eraser.
andybarton Posted April 12, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 12, 2010 Although I don't have an M6, I am guessing that it helps to retain the wind on lever in a "closed" position by sitting directly below the pivoting plastic section of the lever and engaging in the underside of the black plastic end. tobey bilek Posted April 12, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 12, 2010 That is a repair acess to adjust top shutter speed. I don`t know how to use it. DAG does mine
Guest Ron (Netherlands) Posted April 12, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 12, 2010 To prevent that the wind on lever scratches the surface of the top cover. There are models which have not the platic little bubble (disc?) and therefore have sometimes worn surfaces from the wind on lever.
Robert J Posted April 12, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted April 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) To prevent that the wind on lever scratches the surface of the top cover. There are models which have not the platic little bubble (disc?) and therefore have sometimes worn surfaces from the wind on lever. The only problem with this theory is that the plastic insert is flush with the surface of the top cover.
doubice Posted April 12, 2010 Share #8 Posted April 12, 2010 I do not have my M6 with me but, am quite certain that this is a plug which allows for access to an internal adjustment part. Leica customer service has the proper tool to remove it or, they replace it if necessary. Best, Jan
UliWer Posted April 12, 2010 Share #9 Posted April 12, 2010 Here is the little round disc: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! On a black cover plate it doesn't look like plastic. I don't know what it is for, though I think the theory that below it there is something to adjust the shutter wheel should be right. (You can also see that it doesn't prevent the wear off caused by the lever...)
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! doubice Posted April 13, 2010 Share #10 Posted April 13, 2010 Still not home and away from my M6 but, now that I see it, I am 100% sure it is an adjustment access port. Best, Jan
aesop Posted April 13, 2010 Share #11 Posted April 13, 2010 ...it exists on my MPs as well. Could it be the equivalent of the old film plane indicator?
Philippe D. Posted April 13, 2010 Share #12 Posted April 13, 2010 tobey bilek told you, it's a window to access the fast shutter speed adjustment. Quite uneasy use and need a special tool.

Robert J Posted April 15, 2010 Author Share #19 Posted April 15, 2010 Someone drilled a hole in the wrong place It must be a very popular mistake. They liked it so much they repeated it on every top plate.
Xmas Posted April 27, 2010 Share #20 Posted April 27, 2010 No all wrong... It covers the socket to recharge the battery, in situ - there should have been a cable in the box... Noel
