I browsed recent threads, but can't find a thread that covers the following question: Â What case do you use or suggest for the X1 with grip and viewfinder attached? Â Â I have the optional grip and CV 35 viewfinder. I did get the leather case for the x1 (lovely, but useful only with camera, and not optionals attached. wda Posted April 6, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted April 6, 2010 Ashwin, I don't think such a case exists which combines a capacity to hold an X1, hand-grip and viewfinder in a snug well-designed well-fitted leather case. I have the leather ERC supplied by Leica. It is a fine product and I use it for storage and occasional outings. But its one drawback is the need completely to unscrew the retaining screw in order to discard the front and top cover and reconnect for protection of the X1. If retained, the flap can hang below the camera but is ungainly when shooting vertical format shots. In contrast, the body cover is useful and definitely aids holding the X1 but needs to be screwed in place for security. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

For now, my solution may be to remove grip and finder, pack separately, and place X1 in leather case until needed. Wuold be nice for Leica to provide a solution for the X1 system, as the never-ready case can accomodate grip, but not attached viewfinder either.... Â Maybe Luigi can fashion something. I found it on Amazon for under twenty-five bucks. I don't own the grip but the viewfinder stays on with no problem with some wiggle room to spare. You won't fit much else besides small items like a spare battery and media card. I have a lens cleaning cloth in mine, too. Â What I like most about this bag is no velcro and a unique buckle. Pretty good choice for street shooting. Not too much padding either which means I can even fit the 50 inside my briefcase or a daypack. The shoulder strap on the 50 is removable. Â For twenty bucks, you can try it until you find something in leather. Certainly something to look into. I do wish at Luigi produced a saner site. It's crazy over at Leicatime.... Â Â John, thanks for the tip on the Lowepro. Do you think that the bag would accommodate camera plus grip and finder? Thanks again to you all...  Based on photo's I've seen of the grip, I think the bag will accommodate the X1 fitted with both the grip and a viewfinder. I have an Art & Artisan silk neck strap on my camera and that fits. There's even more wiggle room with a hand strap. I am still not sure which I prefer but that's another story. I purchased a Fogg M8-Flute Case, measuring 4.5 in x 3 in x 6 in, which is nearly the extact dimensions of the X1 with viewfinder and grip attached. Fogg makes excellent camera bags (I have a b-laika for the M9), and this should make an elegant and worthy bag for the Leica X1. I ordered mine from Tamarkin in CT, who's the US retailer for Fogg's lineup. They confirmed, as Leica X1 vendors, that the M8-Flute does accomodate this set up (X1/grip/viewfinder).  Mine's gonna be in sand with cognac leather trim. At present I quite enjoy using the Leica ERC despite the need for separating the viewfinder for stowage. I must say, it's a gorgeous camera and can double as a case of the M9 with a lens think 50 mm f/1.4 attached. I have a Fogg B-Laika as my principal M case, so this will serve the X1 well. There'll be a bit of room to boot for a microfiber cloth, wallet/cell phone, and memory card... I can toss wallet and cell into the bag as well as the X1 and unencumbered the pockets. The leather looks nice, and the bag feels well balanced on the shoulder. The camera is easy to access from the pouch. All in all, antihero winner. Â Â As a side note, this bag would fit a M9 with 28/35/50 nicely as well...no space to spare though..
