eleskin Posted April 5, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I first learned about the 50mm Summitar from Steve Huff's review of this lens with the M9. From the tests on Huff's web site, this lens really impressed me. It was sharp wide open, and had beautiful out of focus swirl like backgrounds with beautiful but not over saturated color. I knew then that I wanted one for my M8. I just wanted to find one cheap. Prices went up a bit ($300-$700 USD mint condition), but I was more interested in something I could use. not a collectors item in mint condition. Yesterday, I bought one from Pacific Rim Camera for $175 USD. Lens is in excellent condition. The only issue is the seller says there is a little lens separation and or haze on the edge of one of the elements . My guess is as a user, this should not affect performance at all, so I took the chance and bought it at what I feel is a very reasonable price. So who here on this forum uses this lens, or similar lenses on their M8 and or M9, and who also has lenses in similar condition (a little haze or separation on the edge of the glass). How do they perform for you?

cbretteville Posted April 5, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 5, 2010 It performs well enough that I had DAG make me a L-E39 step ring. It gives nice results as long as you keep it from flaring. A good hood helps, forget the rediculous barn door original. Carl
tbarker13 Posted April 5, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 5, 2010 What do you do for a UV/IR filter for one of these?
cbretteville Posted April 5, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 5, 2010 An L-E39 step ring. Leiz made one (can't remember the code), but they're hard to find and rediculously expensive. This is why DAG made me one by machining the rims of an L-filter and an E39 filter. Carl
tbarker13 Posted April 5, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 5, 2010 Carl, Thanks for the info. Did DAG take care of the parts? Or did you have to supply the L-filter and E39 filter?
cbretteville Posted April 6, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 6, 2010 Tim, I bought an L-filter and had it shipped to him. He had an old E39 he used. But his stock changes all the time so I suggest you email him and ask. BTW: The original part code is "SNHOO", one sold recently on UK eBay for GBP130 Carl
