Semazen

Richard, how do you like the 35 summilux? I am contemplating a purchase to go along with the 28 summicron. I'm only concerned that the narrower fov will force me to stay further away from my subjects. This, for me has also practical implications when photographing crowded places....the closer you get to your subject, the less chances someone will walk in front of the camera a split second before you release the shutter. What are your thoughts and experience?

Richard,

I enjoy the feeling of motion in these pictures as your subjects whirl into union with the divine. I have my own version of whirling dervishes but in my case they are little Mexican girls, dancing between worlds. You can see these if you are interested in my website Benitez-Rivera Photography :: Bailando Entre Mundos: Las Niñas de San Anselmo

I look forward to more of your pictures.

Sam, thank you, This was a cropped version, I wanted to convey the feeling expressed in the semazen's face and thought the movement and patterns added another dimension to the overall image.

Steve, thanks for commenting.

John, thanks it is nice to know you enjoy what I post here. The Sema is a tradition dating back to the middle of the 12th century and in this case I thought to add some background along with the image.

Alessandro, thank you for your comments, you would have to be there to fully experience what you very accurately term "effortless motion". To answer your question, I have both the 28/2.0 and the 35/1.4 I really like them both, and I understand your concern, based on the pictures you have recently posted, about the 35/1.4. Except for an event like the sema or traveling on a tour I mostly go out for a day and choose one lens at most two and shoot from that perspective.

Wilfredo, I appreciate your remarks, especially your understanding of how they "whirl into union with the divine", I know that you Know. I checked out your photos and was pleased to learn that this tradition is shared across other cultures.
