keithhl Posted April 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M8 still using original software. Is it still possible to update the software? If so, can somebody tell me how to do it? I have been to the Leica web site but "downloads" seems to refer to publicity brochures. Thank you. In that case it needs to have a hardware update as well.

Hi Jaap, are you sure about that serial number range? I have an M8 serial 310101x that's been back to Leica a couple of times for focus adjustment and they've never mentioned a hardware update on any of the paperwork that's come back with the camera . ho_co Posted April 9, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 9, 2010 Mine is 3108xxx and received the hardware update. Important thing is just to use the camera with latest firmware. If in the future you have problems and send the camera to Leica, they will update it to latest standard. Cost of the update is included in the estimate they send. In other words, don't worry until it bites you.
Steve66 Posted April 9, 2010 Share #7 Posted April 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just bought a used M8, and I am looking for tips on shooting and composing particularly with reference to making sure what you compose in the view finder carries through to the finished image. My lenses art 35mm 2.8 and 50mm 2.0. Thanks in advance, Steve Swain

Jaap, Leica told me that quite a few of these early serial numbers (e.g. mine 3100302) had the sensor update before they left the factory. That might explain why the shutter releases were over 250 greater than the file number. I would assume that mine had the T3 update when it went back for the upgrade plus a list of erratic behaviour episodes for rectification.
