Advertisement Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Hi rolph gobits, Take a look here Summilux 35 mm and f/1.4 lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shade Posted April 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2010 First of all, why isn't it focusing properly? Second, it doesn't focus on infinity on the M9, does it focus on your M6? Lastly - yes, you can swap around film and digital bodies without problems.
Nikkor AIS Posted April 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 2, 2010 My Summilux wouldn't focus to infinity on the M9 I tested in camera store as well. Well it would focus but it was very , very stiff. I was impressed with the results of the lens/ camera at closer distances. my Summilux works perfect on my M3, M6, M7. It did have the same problem on the M8 as well. My solution was to not to buy either camera. Both shots where taken with the Summilux 35 1.4 and the M9 @ f 1.
Stealth3kpl Posted April 2, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 2, 2010 I would think once the lens has been adjusted out to infinity it will work fine on both yyour camera bodies. It may be that it also doesn't focus to infinity on your M6 at present but you're not really aware of it, or if it is focussing to infinity on the M6, the adjustment to infinity for the M9 will simply mean that the infinity stop will be different for the M6 so you'll have to be careful not to focus beyond infinity with the M6 if you get my drift. I suggest you certainly send the M9 and lens off for calibration but also enquire if there'd be extra charge for including the M6 to ensure compatability continues. JPH1962 Posted April 2, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 2, 2010 you talk about the summilux 35, so called pre-asph - the tiny one? Well, it is normal, that you can't focus to infinity as it collides with the lens throat on M8 and M9. This happens with most M8 / M9, some lenses are ok. I use a very late german made 35 lux with titanium finish - no problem with that one. If you have your lens modified by Leica, it will indeed focus to infinity on film M's as it has nothing to do with infinity stop or any adjustment - it's pure mecanical collision.... rgds JPH
matlep Posted April 2, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 2, 2010 As mentioned above, the Pre-Aspg Summilux 35 have som variations in its production wich casues ot not to focus on infinity on Digital M bodies. A know issue on the M8, read more here for suggestion on what to do: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/67353-35mm-lux-pre-asph.html I have the lens and it works on the M6 and the M9, but oddly enough not on the M8. Bugger!
3rdtrick Posted April 2, 2010 Share #7 Posted April 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was lucky mine works perfectly on the M9. Leica lists that there may be an issue with some of these lenses but it can be modified by them. I knew of the possibility of an issue but still wanted to have an "old" lens in my kit. That was a great choice and this lens is on my camera most of the time. Great one lens kit... and worth having modified if necessary. Pete

The M9 is the suspect here, based on the info you have given.
