ryee3 Posted April 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) What's everyone's thinking about selling or hanging onto the R system cameras and lenses. Some of the members have sold much of their equipment. Does anyone speculate a revival of some kind with our wonderful R lenses etc;)

sandro Posted April 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 2, 2010 As a M user (not digital though) it's different of course, but in my opinion the main thing is whether or not you are using your R-equipment with pleasure. If you enjoy using it, don't sell! Lex
dkCambridgeshire Posted April 9, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 9, 2010 For less than £200 you can buy a used 4/3 format digital camera (eg an E1 ) or a Canon DSLR ( eg EOS 10D ) and use your R lenses with same. dunk
adan Posted April 10, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 10, 2010 I'm buying. I picked up a used Canon 5DMk1 for a kilobuck (with R adapter) and am slowly doing my best to revive R lenses. The Canon will never replace my M9 and lens set (but then I wouldn't replace it with a Leica SLR either) - but it is a kick to keep those R lenses shooting away. I especially like the 1970's-80s glass. Cheaper, and anything that will fit on a Leicaflex SL will clear the Canon mirror, so I hope to track down a 21 Super-Angulon and a 90 'cron or Elmarit. bill Posted April 10, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 10, 2010 I'm buying. Me too. I've been restricting myself to 3-cam lenses because I have an R7, but your point about the older lenses being cheaper is well-made. I use them on an Oly DSLR with focus confirmation. I have used them on an EP-1, but the body is so small I shall stick to only using M and LTM lenses on it in future. Regards, Bill
dkCambridgeshire Posted April 10, 2010 Share #7 Posted April 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Me too with a Canon EOS IDs and an Olympus E1. And I'm having this very rough looking but perfectly functioning 1D Mk II converted for infrared photography which will also be used with R lenses. dunk
Mongo Park Posted April 12, 2010 Share #8 Posted April 12, 2010 Agree with JC and Sandro, love using my R6.2 and R7 s and continue to use em - don't think I'd ever sell.

I hear what you say about the price of those older lenses - I see them sitting unsold in store windows, next to the M used lenses for four or five times the price (and disappearing ten times as fast), and wonder why I ever got the M-bug... As the first reply said, when everyone else is selling is the time to buy, not the reverse...
sircarl Posted April 16, 2010 Share #10 Posted April 16, 2010 When I decided, about six months ago, that rangefinder cameras were no longer working for me, I bought an R7 and the 35 and 50 Summicron-R lenses. I had experimented with other SLRs, but one day I walked into a London camera shop, asked to see an R7 they were selling, and immediately knew this was what I had to have. Since then I haven't been disappointed. The camera I finally bought (on eBay) did need a repair of the mirror chamber lining, which was cracking badly. But now it's working fine. And the Summicrons are simply the finest lenses I have ever owned. Plus, as others here have commented, I know they will work on a DSLR if I ever decide to go down that route. I have to admit, though, that it feels sort of lonely to have adopted a camera system that very few people seem to care about much these days.
