semrich Posted December 19, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 19, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sema is the ceremony of the dervishes following the mystical path of Mevlana, or more popularly known as Rumi. This took place in Istanbul on 12/17 the anniversary of his passing. M8, 28/2.0, 640, 1/30 Thanks for looking.

semrich Posted December 20, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted December 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) kamil, Paul, Peter, Ivan, Thank you for your comments they are appreciated. John, yes I have enough photos for an album and some at slower shutter speeds. I'm still choosing among them and may post a few more. After all the Sema is all about movement, considering that the Semazen's (whirling dervish) constantly turn to the left never losing contact to the floor with their left foot and move around the room in a counter clockwise direction, to them it is a mystical journey to perfection. Stillness in motion, motion in stillness, the movement of the macrocosm and the microcosm. A moving (no pun intended) experience besides getting a bunch of shots like this.
