grober Posted March 26, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted March 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Most of the time I use the X1, its hot shoe remains empty. Empty means the camera's electrical contacts are exposed to grit, dirt and other potential mischief. Anyway I prefer as smooth a surface on the top of the camera as possible to avoid snagging, etc. Â Therefore I obtained the Custom Hot Shoe Cover from http://www.kleptography.com/rf which was originally made by Richard Franiec for the Leica D-LUX 4 camera (model CHSC-DLUX4). Â The item arrived in the mail today and fits in the X1 shoe like it was made for it. It fits with the same snugness as does Leica's own 36mm viewfinder. (I use the Leica v/f about 1/3 of the time.) The rest of the time my X1's hot shoe is protected from the elements by Richard's essential little bit of plastic magic. Â -g

earleygallery Posted March 27, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted March 27, 2010 Why the white gloves? Never had an issue with an 'exposed' hot shoe, they seem pretty sturdy things but YMMV
eduardoho Posted March 27, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted March 27, 2010 I was very much intrigued with the white gloves... Are you serious??? ...You really go out with your Leica in white gloves? ... WOOOOOWWWW!!! ....You give me goose bumps....I better get into the habit of treating my X1 with such a tenderness. Â Yes, I like the hot shoe covers which were always provided in Olympus/Nikon/Sony dslr's...Appreciated very much, I am getting one too.
grober Posted March 27, 2010 Author Share #4 Â Posted March 27, 2010 Didn't mean to creep some of you out; I didn't think anything about it when I took the shot. Rest assured I don't wear gloves whilst shooting. Â The gloves are a legacy from my years in a distant photo lab as a youth. I subsequently found that my eBay results improved whenever I photographed a proffered item with a gloved hand. Projects an aura of cleanliness and class, etc. (NO! My X1 is not for sale.) eduardoho Posted March 28, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted March 28, 2010 Mr. Grober: I met a very nice Czech tourist couple walking on Mott St which is the main drag of NY's Chinatown this past week end. The gentleman had stunning white silvery M8 and his female companion an impressive black M9; while admiring their Leicas, I did noticed they were both wearing fine black leather gloves, you know the kind with fingers cut outs, so I did ask them why they were wearing gloves. They told me that the leather gloves provided firmer grab for their sleek Leicas, while the exposed finger tips still gave them the dexterity to adjust the dials. So I guess wearing gloves deserves valid merit besides preventing finger smudges... so I tip my hat for your use of gloves.
dkCambridgeshire Posted March 28, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted March 28, 2010 I'm looking for a nose guard to prevent my hooter leaving nose grease on my X1 screen when I use the SBLOO. Maybe there could be a whole new line of potential accessories for the discerning Leica owner ... Â Â dunk

wattsy Posted March 29, 2010 Share #9  Posted March 29, 2010 I'm looking for a nose guard to prevent my hooter leaving nose grease on my X1 screen  Maybe a white handkerchief (worn as if you are going to hold up a bank in Dodge City). Combine that with a pair of white gloves and you'll be all set for a day out with the X1.
