Advertisement Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Anyone reached 'Leica equilibrium' and happy with exactly the gear they have?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JLV Posted April 8, 2010 Share #62 Posted April 8, 2010 Very good philosophical post. Does possession suppresses desire? Is there an end to gear quest and a cure to GAS? The answer for me is ....almost:D I have a M9, 21 Elmarit ASPH, 35 cron ASPH, 50 Elmar, 75 AA. No need of anything else. But are we talking about needs: Waiting for the new 35 lux.... all the best, Jean-Luc
SJP Posted April 8, 2010 Share #63 Posted April 8, 2010 yes this doesn't mean I might not buy some additional stuff, but that would be just for fun, maybe a 50 lux ASPH, or a second hand Noctilux. Will I become unhappy if I don't buy these things?? No I won't, I am happy with M8 and 28cron. The rest is decoration.

andalus Posted April 8, 2010 Share #65 Posted April 8, 2010 Unless u are a srious pro, you hardly "need" more than, say, and M9 and 2 lenses, like the 50 lux asph and the 24 elmar. And maybe I don't "need" the 24, but I'm happy with what I have.
R.Morrison Posted April 8, 2010 Share #66 Posted April 8, 2010 This is indeed a neat idea for a thread. Thanx Plasticman. I had bethought myself to indulge in an A La Carte special. Say an MP in black chrome with leather cladding and the more useful canted rewind crank and the articulated wind-on lever. Then my eyes fell on my old M4-P in black chrome, canted crank, articulated lever ensconced in a Kameraleder case. And I realised, I'm already there!. Now an A La Carte M9 ... Yours, R. tdtaylor Posted April 9, 2010 Share #67 Posted April 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have stopped at two M4-P's; one from 1984 and very battered (by previous owners) but recently serviced. As a spare and for occasional use I have a mint example of one of the last M4-P's made. I had previously had to return two used cameras to quite reputable dealers in the south of England, one with overlapping frames and the other with an inoperative frame counter. (If they are that reputable, why don't they check them before sending them out?). So, with the second M4-P, I just bought the latest mint one I could find. I do not want a built-in meter so that was the obvious choice. Main lens is a 1958 50mm Summicron, backed up by a 1972 35mm Summilux. I also have some old 50mm specimens: Summar, Summitar, Summarit and Elmar. Actually, that sounds a lot - too much, even. I nearly always go out only with the Summicron and the Summilux. I ought to sell the others but prices for Leica items are always rising, so I may as well hang on to them and use them for their individual effects. Gadget-freakery is not an exclusive male affliction, bit it is look upon as odd in females, I'm told. Clothes and chocolate are different matters. Somehow missed this earlier. Love your post! As a father with several daughters, please break any and all preconceptions. And I don't find it odd . (By the way, all of my daughters are heavy into photography, have spent 3 years each with B & W film studying composition at their school-the right way in my opinion. Both have gone on to AP Photography in our school system). Makes a father proud :D:D
Jamie Roberts Posted April 9, 2010 Share #68 Posted April 9, 2010 I'm very happy with the lenses I have. I just want another M9 body, and I'm good for a long while...maybe

Didn't you just buy a Nokton!!? 5 days of equilibrium LOL!! I'm as bad as you are Wilfredo--the difference is, you'll probably sell something too, where I won't anymore Part of the "hedge" about this is exploratory... there are so many different lenses to try, for example. And they keep making them!

And they keep making them! Yes, I did sell something, my 18mm Zeiss. I very rarely used it. I'll get a lot more use out of the f/1.1 Nokton. In the end, it's pretty much a wash and I may sell my 50mm f/2 Hexanon. I'll decide that after I start using the Nokton, but this is all alternative gear, none of it Leica. I have to confess that I am thinking about a 35mm R Summicron for my 5D Mark II. I suspect it is ony a matter of time, so perhaps I haven't really reached my threshold for Leica equilibrium. Chiefey Posted April 11, 2010 Share #78 Posted April 11, 2010 You're kidding, right??? I have an R3, R4, R5 and R8, and enough lenses to dislocate my shoulder with a camera bag. An M3, and an M5, with 5 lenses. Still saving for an M8 or M8.2. Then of course there's always the newer lenses... etc. etc. etc. Chiefey
