jaapv Posted March 24, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2010 Why not? I have some no-name wriststrap that I have fixed to one eyelet of my M8.
giordano Posted March 24, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2010 There have been two or three reports of M8s falling off their baseplates when attached to a tripod. None that I'm aware of involving M9s. Certainly the M8 baseplate fixings appear much less rugged than those on film Ms. So I wouldn't trust them to survive rough-and-tumble life on the end of a strap. chris_tribble Posted March 24, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 24, 2010 What's wrong with the one that Leica supplies? I've never felt the need for anything different...
AGeoJO Posted March 24, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 24, 2010 I am using an Artisan & Artist strap that came with the Epson R-D1 I sold long time ago. It is very soft and pliable and not too long that I can easily wrap that around my wrist and it will function as a wrist strap. I am really happy with it and will not break out the package for the Leica strap, with other words. The best looking strap I have seen is the woven silk strap from Artisan & Artist but at approximately $130, it is on the pricey side.
gravastar Posted March 25, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 25, 2010 If I want to use a camera unobtrusively I hold it to carry but with a wrist strap so that I don't drop it, leave it behind anywhere and it can't be snatched. Otherwise I use the standard Leica supplied strap. The case and wrist strap were obtained from Mr. Zhou on eBay. I dyed the strap to match the case color. The strap was only available in light tan or black. - Bob. Welcome, dear visitor! I have those short, non-adjustable, cloth A&A straps on two of my Ms and really like them for the reasons you describe - they stay out of the way when shooting and work nicely around the neck or the wrist. Bought mine from Photo Village, but I was just looking to purchase another tonight and they don't show the black available, only the khaki color. Anyone know of another source of this simplest of straps?
AlanJW Posted March 25, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 25, 2010 I use a strap made by Luigi. I like mine longer for walking around (longer also goves the option of cross shoulder). The Luigi strap is nice and soft and just a bit wider than the original Leica strap (which remains wrapped up in the box). I have never liked those quick draw contraptions but then again I have never tried one.
250swb Posted March 25, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 25, 2010 I don't like anything but utilitarian straps that do a proper job, so I tend to use a Leica strap with the rubber shoulder pad ripped off for when I want to wrap it around my wrist (a mod I learned here), or for winter (in particular) a RF version of the UpStrap, where the grippy pad helps the camera stay on the shoulder of a slippery waterproof jacket. I use Leica strap ends on the UpStrap for quick changes. Steve
ianspector Posted March 25, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 25, 2010 Dear John, Perhaps through my folly I can add some perspective here. Being a Nikon D3 shooter I fell instantly in love with my M9 in December and wanted to shower her with gifts. The obvious public display of affection was a better strap. I bought the Leicagoodies STRAP first together with a couple of their HOOKS. For my preference the STRAP was too short and having the M9 twisting in the wind always wanted to leave the lens pointing into my side or belt, glass first. Next up was the Blackrapid R-Strap RS-5. It was big and substantial and allowed the M9 to dangle at the comfortable length. Sadly the tripod mount similarly had the M9 once more heading Noctilux first into my leg. Also it seemed that the strap was more substantial then the little rangefinder dangling somewhere down its ample girth. Back to Leicagoodies for their SLING. This seemed an easy choice as I always used an Op-Tech hand strap for my D3. Sadly I did not fall in love with it the same way as I expected to. I often wanted my hand out and then the M9 feels very vulnerable when secured by no strap. After each attempt I re-fit the understated Leica strap that came with the M9. Even with the 90 Cron or the Noct it is never a strain on my neck. It wraps easily around my wrist if I want to shoot like that. After every trial I have come back to Leica. Now if you want to try for yourself: have I got a nest of straps for you! Ian

Most comfortable wrist strap I've ever tried on an RF camera and very strong & secure. Just about to purchase my third one in fact. For a standard neck strap then I also agree the standard no frills Leica strap is fine.
lars_bergquist Posted March 25, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 25, 2010 Domke have a line of webbing straps without the snaps (which could of course scratch the screen cover when you stash the camera in a bag). Elmo Posted March 27, 2010 Share #13 Posted March 27, 2010 consider the Luma Loop. Similar to the sun sniper but more popular. I tried it but was not comfortable. I am using the UpStrap. Highly regarded on this forum and very non-slip. I can wear it over the opposite shoulder and bring it to eye level about as fast as using the UpStrap
elansprint72 Posted March 27, 2010 Share #14 Posted March 27, 2010 Timpsons (UK) sell shoe laces, in pairs, for as little as 49p. If you can tie a reef knot, problem solved; plus you have a spare.
