I did this last week and will have mine in hand tomorrow. I also received a call this morning from a shop in KY telling me that they had another one for me if I want it. When I was put on that list a week ago I was # 4 on the list for a steel grey, and once again I was offered one today. I also cancelled my list spot in VT where I was 1st on the list. I guess what I am saying is pay the EU prices is need to, but with the exchange rate and taxes you are going to be paying a lot. They really are starting to trickle into the States. Thanks. George with the current dollar to € or CHF, or SKr, or whatever, don't do it. Usually you have to pay European VAT and import tax to the states plus whatever your states tax is on top. You can reclaim the European VAT from Customs, but, good luck with that. It's likely cheaper to fly to Europe, buy an M9, spend a few days seeing the sights and making sure the camera is ok, and flying back. Then it makes sense, otherwise buy it in the states. Englander Posted March 24, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 24, 2010 If you purchase anything that is shipped from Europe from a reputable shop, you will not be charged VAT nor any other European local tax. Jewelry, wine, clothing, it doesn't matter. The situation is no different with cameras. Furthermore, according to the United States International Trade Commission Rulings And Harmonized Tariff Schedule a digital camera is 8525.80.40 which is duty free. You will not have the USA warranty and some have indicated that Leica USA (apparently like Mamiya, Canon, and Nikon) will not service the camera. I have no way to confirm this. To make an informed decision (I am not giving legal advise), do a search on 8525.80.40 and read several of the US Trade Commission rulings.
