ashwinrao1 Posted April 11, 2010 Share #62  Posted April 11, 2010 One week in...and I LOVE MY X1:  My X1 Gallery on Flickr  I'd love your feedback on my photos. As for my sentiments:  1. I have found the 1 camera/1 focal length exercise to be liberating. I can focus on composing rather that fiddling with lenses. 2. I have found the IQ of the X1 to be OUTSTANDING. 3. I have found AF to be adequate for street photography. .  Yes, the camera is not without its foibles, but I can say I LOVE MY X!!!!

ezc203 Posted April 11, 2010 Author Share #65 Â Posted April 11, 2010 Yes, the camera is not without its foibles, but I can say I LOVE MY X!!!! Â My sentiments exactly and the purpose of this thread. Â Ashwinraao1 - some of the photos on your Flickr set wouldn't load for me (maybe it's just my laggy computer), but from what I saw you have some excellent photos. All your B&W photos are great, but the ones of the Boeing engine are especially stellar, great tones and details. For the color ones, do you shoot DNG and PP? The color seems very different from my color JPGs. Â This also makes me wonder... Â Now that I have had a little time to get to know my X1, these are my usual settings: Â DNG + B&W JPG f/2.8 (almost always, 90% of the time) EX. Viewfinder 1 Point H, Macro Focus. Â Would love to hear about other people preferred settings.
ashwinrao1 Posted April 11, 2010 Share #66 Â Posted April 11, 2010 Hi Eddie, I do shoot in DNG and process images in lightroom and color efex. Some of the shots have a film effect layer or some cross processing done for effect. Â Thanks for looking!

Oh I love my X1 - but I don't like the leatherette peeling away from the body. I'm not the only ownwer with this problem.
ezc203 Posted April 12, 2010 Author Share #68 Â Posted April 12, 2010 ezc203 / damnsharp - what are those viewfinders you got there? Â I'm using the Voigtlander 35mm Viewfinder. It's excellent and I actually prefer it to the rectangular Leica finder.

57guy Posted April 12, 2010 Share #72 Â Posted April 12, 2010 I received an X1 and M9 last week. I ordered a X1 in Nov. 09 and since dealer didn't know when it would arrive, I got tired of waiting and ordered a M9 in Feb. They both arrived same day last week. After a few days of playing with both to see which one I want to keep, I like the X1 the best. Â However, I decided to keep both for a few Months. When you have something you cannot replace right away, you hate to make an hasty decision. Maybe the M9 will grow on me. Glenn PS: I like the X1 mostly for its small size
ezc203 Posted April 12, 2010 Author Share #73  Posted April 12, 2010 Welcome to the Forum Glenn  Don't sell your M9 just quite yet. Usually when switching to rangefinder, there a learning curve that a lot of people struggle with, but once you get pass it, it becomes a third eye and you won't want to go anywhere without it.  As for the X1, don't you just love it? I love the portability of it, but more importantly the great images it produces (and at such ease). Let's see some of your work!

Glenn PS: I like the X1 mostly for its small size Welcome to the forum, Glenn. What a dilemma you face! Depending on the lenses you have for the M9, treat the X1 as complementary to the M9. As you may have read elsewhere, that is what I do with my M8 and X1. A perfect light compact travel kit!
57guy Posted April 12, 2010 Share #75 Â Posted April 12, 2010 I just went down to my local Leica dealer (didn't know Palm Springs had a Leica Dealer until a few days ago) and purchased a 35mm f/2 just to be able to use the M9. Since I'm having fun shooting mostly HRD right now, i figured a 35mm would be best for me. Â I'm now looking for camera cases for both especially the M9. I know I'm keeping the X1, but the jury is out on the M9. Since the M9 cost so much, I don't want a scratch on it if I try to sell it in 6 months. Thanks Glenn
ezc203 Posted April 12, 2010 Author Share #76 Â Posted April 12, 2010 I'm now looking for camera cases for both especially the M9. Â Haven't really seen an actual half-case for the X1 yet, but I'm speaking to Luigi about ordering one. Â For the M9, I highly recommend Luigi's half-cases. Great protection and not too much so that it limits the convenience of shooting. Only problem with Luigi is that it'll probably take you 2 - 3 weeks to get them. Â A very high quality alternative is Artisan&Artist* cases. Made in Japan, and excellent quality as well. I love their straps, but personally not a big fan of their cases due to a series of small details. And also, because Popflash carries them, getting your hands on one shouldn't take more than a week or so. But they don't have it for the X1 yet. Â PS: If you decide to sell your M9, PM me hehe
57guy Posted April 13, 2010 Share #77  Posted April 13, 2010 Thanks Eddie  I looked at the case popflash carries and I think I want to get a full case. I've never used one, but it looks like the camera can still get scratched up in a Half-case. If I want to sell the M9 later on, I want it to look like new. glenn
ezc203 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Share #78 Â Posted April 13, 2010 In that case Glenn, Luigi Full Cases are definitely the way to go.
57guy Posted April 14, 2010 Share #79 Â Posted April 14, 2010 I took the X1 out yesterday to try shooting HDRs. In the bright sun, the screen is useless. I'm going to have to get a viewfinder. Â Where's the best place to get a Voigtlander 35mm viewfinder? Ebay? Â Thanks Glenn
F1Addict Posted April 16, 2010 Share #80  Posted April 16, 2010 I took delivery of my X1 today, and I've been nothing but impressed. Even before I took the camera out of the box, lol!  Even though it's been raining most of the day, been trying to play around and take some shots. Got this one of my cat earlier this evening. In my 5 years of playing around with other cameras, I don't think I've ever gotten a picture that I was this impressed with. My wife said the same thing.  Coming from a GF1, I'm VERY happy I made the upgrade. I'm looking forward to many more amazing images. Welcome, dear visitor!
