BB W Posted August 10, 2010 Share #325 Â Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) I really enjoy, OK - I really love seeing everyone's photographs - including your linked shots, mah! Very inspiring images. Â One of these days, I'll have to get it together to upload to a gallery here. Please correct me if I'm mistaken but it appears one can't embed from another website within the threads? Â I'm still very much in the learning stages with this lovely camera. My fits and starts are on my Flickr stream. Somedays I'm in love with my results and other days I feel I'm back at stage one. Meanwhile, thanks again for adding your own photos here. Edited August 10, 2010 by BB W
h00ligan Posted August 10, 2010 Share #326 Â Posted August 10, 2010 You can embed from flickr no problem, you just need to 'grab the html' (in bb form). Â The easiest way for non tech people is probably: Â Select the photo you wish to share Click on the 'share this' menu just above the image select 'grab the html' select the image size you wish to share below the code window select the 'bb code' button click the code window which should select the full content - if not press cmd+a(mac) or ctrl+a(pc) to select all code in that window press cmd+c (Mac) or ctrl+c(pc) to copy start post here, write content, then press cmd+v(mac) or ctrl+v(pc) to paste the code. It sounds complicated, but once you do it you will see it's quite simple. Please note this method will adhere to flickrs terms, but will also provide a path to all of your public photos - so make sure you are setting privacy permissions should you not want to share everything with everyone. Details about that can be found here. Â I hope that helps. There are other methods that can be used to share a photo but mask your flickr account - Happy to add that instruction if desired.
BB W Posted August 10, 2010 Share #327  Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you Edward, I thought that is what I tried the other day on our X1 image thread that was moved elsewhere but it didn't work. Let's see if it does this time.  url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/otra/4868376331/][/url] L1000138 - Version 2 by Otra2004, on Flickr  X1 f/6.3 @ 1/30th ISO 1600  Ah, I see now - I didn't catch the "bb code" bit. Thank you! Not quite sure why that other bit of html code has to show. Hmm. I use a Mac, but have never had problems embedding before on other sites though I don't need to use bb code there. I'll leave it as it is for now and stop back in later for some how to advice.  I took this shot not even thinking that I had the camera set to Auto ISO, but still found thought the photo was well worth keeping. fotografr Posted August 10, 2010 Share #328 Â Posted August 10, 2010 Here's one I just posted here that tells why I love the X1. Â http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/134988-friends.html#post1410229
h00ligan Posted August 10, 2010 Share #329  Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) BB W - you missed the opening [ before url there, that's why it's not quite right, just off one character! If that is fixed the image becomes clickable.  glad to help  The one comment I get regularly about x1 files compared to other shots is that they look '3d' As does your shot. I guess that's lens sharpness or some other characteristic, but I like it! Edited August 10, 2010 by h00ligan
BB W Posted August 10, 2010 Share #330 Â Posted August 10, 2010 Thanks, Edward. How embarrassing. I should have seen that. I suppose I was in too much of a hurry. Now apparently there's a time limit on when the "edit" function is available so it will remain as it is. Perhaps someone else will find it helpful. Â I can see what they mean about the "3d" nature. It's probably the range of tones that give the camera's images that feeling of depth. I like it too.
h00ligan Posted August 11, 2010 Share #331  Posted August 11, 2010 (edited) Back to topic for a minute. I had occasion to use my very new to me 7d this week(i think it was the fourth outing)... I shoot my x1 probably 4 days a week(comfortable I guess), at least a couple of shots. The 7d is so overwhelming... I have to go through so many steps to get where I want to be, and I have to chimp regularly to do so. Even given the situation I was thinking.. damnit, I should have brought the x1. I wouldn't have shot a ton of frames, but I bet the ones I had would have been better.  Maybe it's because I don't have decades of experience, maybe it's the learning curve with the technology, but it's really nice to be able to take out a camera and know I hit what I need to hit and be ready to go. It's simple. I work with technology daily and have mastered a great many complicated things, I don't want to deal with technology whilst learning photography (in terms of hundreds of option combination) I have enough to focus on (no pun) with framing, light metering, environment, etc.. that's enough!  So, while there are shortcomings, I love my x1 because it allows me to not worry about a mass of settings to make a photo that works.  Maybe it's just me.. but I think others probably enjoy it for the same reason. Maybe I'm just a grumpy 80 yr old neophyte in a 34 yr old body  Because I don't have to focus on (again no pun) dealing with the technology, like ai servo on my 7d, i do think the x1 makes me better than I am... although still a newb. Although I must confess I only bring my X1 out 2 days a week, it used to be daily coz I have fixed work and personal schedule so I guess whatever that I can photograph around me I have done so already while testing this tiny gem.  One thing for sure, having been spoilt by its teeny size and easy controls, my trusty old dslr is now exclusively for macro shots at work. ezc203 Posted August 11, 2010 Author Share #334 Â Posted August 11, 2010 I feel you guys on this. I work with the Canon 5Dii a lot, and it's a relief to shoot with my Leicas afterwards. On my recent trip to Europe, I brought the X1 as my main camera and the M8 to back it up Probably shot the X1 75% of the time and the M8 (alternating between 50mm/90mm) 25% of the time. The size of the X1 really excels in these situations, when I'm done shooting I just wrap up the strap and drop it in my cargo shorts. Excellente! Â Here are a few from Paris: Â Leica X1 - ISO100 - f/5.6 - 1/800 Â Leica X1 - ISO100 - f/5.6 - 1/400 Â Leica X1 - ISO800 - f/2.8 - 1/160 Â ...

h00ligan Posted August 11, 2010 Share #337 Â Posted August 11, 2010 Yah, that 7d use (admittedly this is my fault, not the cameras) really woke me up. I missed soooo many shots with it, and it had me absolutely befuddled and fumbling most of the day when I used it. Â I realize it's horses for courses, and the 7d is more 'capable' I'm just glad that right now i'm not in a position where I have to be that capable, heh. Guest badbob Posted August 11, 2010 Share #338 Â Posted August 11, 2010 I can see what they mean about the "3d" nature. It's probably the range of tones that give the camera's images that feeling of depth. I like it too. Â Partly the lens quality, partly the short focal length, and partly the lower noise compared to other cameras. The lower noise makes the image look more "real", even when the competition's noise isn't obvious.
BB W Posted August 12, 2010 Share #339 Â Posted August 12, 2010 Appreciate your input badbob and I'm sure you're right that all that comes into play. Â rjr, I like your haunting photo very much. It makes me think of the Werner Herzog movie "Fitzcarraldo", if you're familiar with it. I also checked out your Flickr stream and I'm very impressed by your photographs. Many thanks for posting your X1 photo here as a link to your Flickr photos.
