One of my favorite B&W shots so far. Pretty obvious 'cos it's my little boy on the left.

'We're not 8, we are real men dad'... :)

And another one. Just some people outside a small beer brewery in Amsterdam.

BTW I think Lightroom is excellent for processing B&W images. The 'color sliders' allow you to adjust the corresponding tones of the B&W scale for (very) fine adjustments of tonality and contrast. And LR 3 has raised the bar substantially for sharpening and noise reduction too. Very good.

It's amazing how much detail is in that last image, given processing for Web display. The separation of tones is impressive.

Performance of X1 at a recent rock festival was outstanding. Excellent ability to catch candid shots and with the "Leica Look" conveying emotion of the scene.

Of course loading in here with the website's image compression does not convey the real quality of the image.

There must be something about the x1, the photos I shot with it seem the most commented on. Here's one - I'm drawn to awkwardness, not sure why. It seems a lot of x1 shots I see are posed though, probably due to autofocus issues - that's not my particular style or what I'm drawn to.. the one shortcoming is the af.. I just wish they could fix it a bit. Still the results are outstanding when you can hit it (be it zone focusing, prefocusing, etc). I've certainly seen great shots in hands more capable than my own. Too bad I don't have the willingness to spend on an m9 to learn... the x1 could be a better consolation prize.. but again, the results are great when you hit it (maybe some or many will feel I didn't here, but for me this is a good shot despite the flat light necessitated by the hot desert light). Regardless, I appreciate what it did for me and my photography, with obvious shortcomings.

Just got mine today! Very satisfied.

I generally think photos of animals either look cutesy or nicey-nicey; in a National Geographic kind of way. All very common and boring. Very rarely does an animal photo make me stop and look again but this one is just terrific. The photo captures the cat doing something we have all seen before but I have never seen this captured on film with this kind of attitude. The saturated colors give the photo gravity and the cat has a real inner life. You can feel the blood pulsing beneath the fur. I go back and forth in my opinion of the blue wall in the background. Does it pull my eye to the right too much? Hmm, I can't decide. Nonetheless, how great is it to see a photo that skirts absolute perfection for absolute impact...

Just got my hands on a Luigi case for the X1. It's absolutely amazing. Fits like a glove and the added thickness transforms the handling of the camera. (Will post pictures later).

I also do agree that that there are some really nice shots with the x1.

As soon as there gets action and movement in the game I get not such a great in-focus-percentage of images, but usually I just take a few and 1 or 2 are fine.

I also started using f2.8 much less and using f5.6 a lot more to get some DOF.

I believe one big advantage of the x1 is its unobstrusive size and near quiet shutter.

With pre-focussing, timing and a bit of luck, action-shots can turn out fine too. And I often missed these kind of shots with my SLR too unless it was on continuous.

And for me there is some extra fun in getting shots right with the X1 that it's not supposed to do (well). Gives me more satisfaction than shooting this kind of things with a Canon 7D blasting 8 frames a second or more. "What a great shot!" "Yeah, I made a film and only picked the right frame".. :)

I have the same feeling too. But with 7D or other similar cameras, one can also take the very shot like what we are unfortunately limited to do with X1. And to pick the right frame from a film is actually not very easy. :p

One thing I'm sure is that no one would like to carry a 7D around all the time and most X1 owners would not like to leave the little camera behind.

The best camera to me is still the one always with me. Period.

I suppose this one could be boring, but it's an elegant image of a very congenial dog, and pets aren't often afforded that much dignity in photos.

To me nearly all the X1 images have that 'something' that makes them look outstanding.

The X1 provides (near?) M image quality at a much more affordable price. Yes I know about the limitations bla bla bla.

Funny thing is, in the grid-view from Lightroom I have hundreds of recent images from the X1, my Canon SLR/Zeiss combo and Panny LX3. You can easily pick out the X1 images from the thumbnails alone.

Fascinating... :)

Richard, it's funny - I can pick out the x1 shots in reduced view from the gf1 and canon shots also - i had no idea i could until one day i was looking for a sample and i was able to just scroll through. It surprised me given how close I initially thought they were. There's something about the sharp and gentle? It confuses me.
