I took delivery of my X1 today, and I've been nothing but impressed. Even before I took the camera out of the box, lol!

Even though it's been raining most of the day, been trying to play around and take some shots. Got this one of my cat earlier this evening. In my 5 years of playing around with other cameras, I don't think I've ever gotten a picture that I was this impressed with. My wife said the same thing.

Coming from a GF1, I'm VERY happy I made the upgrade. I'm looking forward to many more amazing images.

nice image...but it is always nice to hear that type of praise from the critic that matters the most- ie your wife

I'm going to put a cord on my X1 lens cap tomorrow. Lost my cap third day out.

I didn't take it off and forget to put it back on. It just fell off somewhere during my travels.

I've had my X1 for about 6 weeks and am having lots of fun with it. You can see some of my pictures here: Blipfoto :: X1 and kathy h :: 19 April 2010

Kathy -

Great work with the X1! Your pictures portray a high level of comfort with the camera. Tell us about your workflow and impressions of the X1.

You are a most welcome addition to the forum.

I LOVE IT TOO but it broke in a nano second and now waiting for major repairs.

There has been so much negativity surrounding this camera on this Forum from the day it was announced. And I, for one, have had enough. Isn't it time we showed this beautiful little camera some love? (Plus, there's a "I love my...." thread for basically every other Leica, so why not? ;))

So, I will start by proclaiming for all to hear:

I LOVE MY LEICA X1

I know its not perfect and comes with its flaws, but I love it regardless! I love its size, I love its looks, I love its retro designs, but more importantly, I love its photos (and that's what counts!)

So, here I am, inviting one and all to come join me in the celebration of this lovely camera. Please, post comments, photos of or by the Leica X1; and let's relish in all the things it can do, and not concern ourselves with the things it cannot.

Thank you for the compliment on my photos. As for my impressions of the X1 - I love the image quality, size, weight and design. I like one focal length and the simplicity of the controls. My major complaint is that in manual focus it resets to infinity when the camera goes into power save mode; that and the peeling skin. Overall though it is just a really fun camera to use.

Kathy - I agree completely, the ability for Leica to reduce the size, weight, and minimize the design (simplicity with manual knobs for controlling) of the camera while maintaining the HIGH standard of image quality is the trumping qualities of the X1.

Greetings,

I'm still waiting for my X1, which I pre-ordered from my local Leica dealer way back in December 2009.

A few questions:

Is it fair to say that images taken with the X1 Elmarit 24mm ASPH lens have that unmistakable and iconic Leica glow to them?

Does the X1 Elmarit ASPH have the same image quality as the M Elmarit ASPH lens?

What is the optimum ISO before noise rears it's ugly head? I do like the look of Tri-X though.

Since the X1 does not have image stablization, realistically, how low can one hand hold the camera and get a sharp image?

Regards.

Kathy, welcome to the Leica Forum, but am surprised you are suffering from 'peeling skin' in Canada!

You picture of the step shows that you have an extremely good eye for a picture and mastery of post processing.

Thank you for your comment.

The peeling isn't much but it's there just to the left of the column of buttons. I think it must be crappy adhesive and not only exposure to heat and humidity.

My Leica M6 peeled, so I wouldn't be totally surprised if the X1 peeled at some point. Take a deep breath and have it replaced.

I feel this has been the camera I've enjoyed most..and quite simply that I have used the most! I use Nikon for work and hardly bring my camera when out. I bought this camera specifically for everyday shooting as well as traveling (we all know how clunky and heavy dslrs are, hoarding practically most of the 5kg or 7kg limit on flights for hand carry luggage).

At the same time, I am not willing to compromise on image quality, hence my requirement for a compact camera with a larger sensor, the X1 has more than fit my bill...attached pic taken at midnight behind a petrol kiosk, lighting was from the side washroom...very low light condition....

So there you have it, I love my X1 too!

I noticed that based on filenames I have exposed >4000 photos with the X1 already. Some of these are of course from playing around or testing different things as a part of the learning curve. But it's also a fact that the number is growing quickly because I have now started to take pictures every day, something that I have never done before. I'm getting more comfortable with the camera all the time and it has given my photography-hobby lots of new enjoyment. I'm even getting used to the manual focus even if I hope it can be improved in a later firmware.

Just like Kathy I have used blipfoto for my daily pictures. Here are direct links to to a selection of ten pictures I like the most so far.

Hi everyone,

got my X1 today (ordered yesterday...) and I am very pleased so far! But I have to say: Love must grow by the time. I really enjoy its haptic and smoothness etc...but until now I am not really convinced about the bespoken low noise (ISO 800 to 3200). But thats an impression only from day 1 - have to play around - samples will follow!

Greetings

Thomas
