karl101 Posted March 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have a Leica M8, I also have LEGO robotics. Obviously combining the two would make for the ultimate Leica/LEGO experience. After many hours of work, I present to you this practical, portable and compact compressed air powered fingerless trigger. As you can see in the picture, its made up of three distinct parts; at the front left is the air compressor, with storage, set to maintain a pressure of two bar. Next to this is the air switch, this uses a distance sensor and by waving my hand over this it will trigger the red thumb attached to the tripod, this in turn depresses the plunger on the cable release to take the picture. Now, the next stage would be to make some kind of auto-focus.... Karl.

Guest Posted March 24, 2010 Share #16 Posted March 24, 2010 Brilliant Karl! My very first post in this forum was a question about an elctronic shutter release for the digital M8. My Mamiya 7 got one made in München by their official service department. It was back in the DM era and came for less then 100 including tax for a 2-wire-cable coming out at the side (of another not weather sealed cam), for me to attach a button to connect them. Now the M9 has a corner missing above the viewfinder (for specialised pickpockets?) and a modern age paint and still only the mechanical cable release. Any complains? If so, the salesmen say, look at the X1: no cable release at all . But the X1 is the ideal camera for digiscoping with the world class Televid, because of it's high resolution-"high ISO" chip and the nice lens. "Pardon me?" "Oh, I see YOUR problem" he said, "use the self-timer" (only he knew how he kept a serious face, but so did I) Good thing your input is here now for the Leica engineer (un-)responsible for this (so no one to blame - perfect!), who probably retired last century. Not having a department with a plate on the door stating this, it could be nobody is in charge. Thank you very much for this thread. Ricoh has an electronic cable release, that goes into the mini-USB and needs an AAA battery. They probably also have the unwritten law, that adding a dedicated plug to a new cam, which was overlooked at the beginning (20 models earlier), is a no-no. But at least they provide this solution. So do you, Karl. Blessye! Cheers!
