V-Lux1 AF mode

I am not very experienced but use a VLUX-1 as a casual amateur and have got myself confused about Auto Focus modes.

The VLUX is very versatile and has several options. I understand how to change the options, but my problem is choosing which setting for BASIC shooting. The options which are relavent for my purposes are, I think, 9-area, 3-area, or 1-area (Spot is much more specific).

My inclination is to use 1-area as my basic setting on the grounds that usually I have a specific subject, focus then if necessary move the camera to reframe my shot with shutter release half depressed. I am not sure whether I would be better using the 9-area option.

If someone can explain this to me in fairly simple terms I would be really grateful. The Manual tells me HOW but not WHY.

You made it correct! The 9area option is a fully useless feature for seriously working from my point of view. Mostly using that option the camera decides wrong with the AF. If you want to keep control, just keep on going your way with the 1 area.
