Undocumented firmware improvements

It seems that some improvements were not listed in the letter announcing the new firmware.

For example, there is an option that enables you to visualize the last shot with transparent histogram by keeping the shutter button pressed right after the shot. And it allows to zoom in straight away. Just tried it, works great and very useful but it needs to be activated in the visualize options menu.

Any other things you might have discovered that was undocumented in the firmware release ?

Got it - it's under the Auto Review menu in the English version - Select DURATION, scroll to the bottom and you have a "Rel.button pressed" option. Neat! Really good if you're working in a concert / dark setting and don't want the pre-view most of the time, but DO need it for the occassional checl of histogram... Thank you Leica. :)

This was in the previous firmware as well....;) In the manual too....

The M9 manual says the following :

3. then select the desired function or duration in the

subsequent sub-menu: (Off, 1s, 3s, 5s, Hold).

They have added a new option called "Rel. button pressed".

So either you have not understood well the new function, or either the manual is wrong ;)

I must have had a very special camera - I have been using it this way since September. What has changed is that it has been moved up in the menu striucture.

News to me and VERY cool feature. Just set it up.

One of the first things that I turn off when I get a new digital camera is auto review. I didn't realize that there was an option that would only work in the S mode and only when the shutter is held down. Brilliant.

I'm not sure if this was a user requested feature that was implemented by Leica, but if it was...thanks to whomever suggested it.

And, I'm guilty as well. Coming from the M8, I didn't even think of reading the manual which is still fresh in its plastic wrap.

A great new undocumented feature is that if you have auto-power-off set at say 1 min to conserve battery life not only does it shut the camera down when idle as before but now it also will shut power off without warning as you navigate the menus or browse images (even while pressing the control buttons).

What a great new feature! The guys at Leica are so creative when it comes to power management strategies...

;-)

Well. they had to do something considering it is a current shortage of batteries. Maybe well se an updated FW-version when they have sorted it. :D

I found the reason for the confusion. It is only in the German part of the manual, page 25 : Aus, 1s, 3s,5s, dauerhaft (=hold), Ausloser gedruckt (=press shutterbutton). Somehow the last option got lost in the English version on page 113.
