ckchen72 Posted March 16, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any word on when lightroom 3 will come out? And if you purchase an M9 and register for the current version of lightroom, will you be able to upgrade? Thanks, Cal

Adobe Labs - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 The only one who knows when the official release is going to happen is Adobe. But feel free to give the beta a try. You've got a month and a half to do so. sanyasi Posted March 16, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 16, 2010 I've been doing some searches looking for rumored release dates. So far, I haven't seen anything. I would bet that the release of Aperture 3 is putting some pressure on Adobe to get version 3 out, but who knows.
ho_co Posted March 16, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 16, 2010 Cal, I think everyone will have to pay for LR version 3. I think someone on the forum had verified with Adobe that Leica's arrangement was that purchasing an M9 would make LR2 available, not later products. Until LR3 is on the market, of course, we won't know for sure, but my guess is that if you buy the M9 and download LR2 'free' now, you'll pay only the upgrade price to LR3, not the full purchase price. Hacker Posted March 18, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2010 I heard the same thing, LR license is for v2, not LR3.
jpattison Posted March 19, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 19, 2010 Shame for us waiting for M9 delivery, who actually own lightroom 2.6! I was hoping to use the download to get LR3 after release. What can M9 buyers expect, if they buy their camera after LR3 is out? Surely Leica will negociate a deal to give LR3 to new buyers? John
sakthorp Posted March 19, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Like many, I already own a license to Lightroom V2 so I'm holding my new license code in hopes it will activate Lightroom 3. Over the years, I've purchased digital cameras from Canon and Nikon and oftentime they were bundled with Adobe software and it seems it was never the CURRENT version, often the previous version was offered, sometimes even two generations behind because the camera was at the end of it's shelf life. I had assumed that Adobe made bundles available to camera manufacturers as a marketing ploy to acquire new users who may elect to upgrade after sampling the previous version of any particular software package. I do recall getting PS Elements bundled with a Canon DSLR and I was able to upgrade to Photoshop for a $299 'upgrade' price. That was a decent deal. Still, I'm hoping for a free V3 but if not I'll happily shell out the $99 for the V3 upgrade
Bo_Lorentzen Posted March 19, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 19, 2010 Sitting on my number too - Am liking LR3 quite a lot, particularly it is terrific ll in dealing with low-light nosy images, much smoother output on those. will be happy when it ships and I can import my LR2 catalog. . hoppyman Posted March 19, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 19, 2010 I think that a number of us are waiting and hoping with the same scenario in mind. We have already paid for Lightroom and have not used our licence that came with our M9s. Also it turned out to be necessary to change to LR2.6.1 to eliminate the crashing bug with M9 files. With the M9 still in back order status for many, you can speculate that many people won't have taken delivery before LR3 is the only version available. Presumably they will receive LR3? I would say that we will hear all about LR3 eligibility (or ineligibility!) here very soon after the commercial release of LR3. One interesting aside is that Leica provides the same licence for X1 and S2 buyers as well, of course. Currently there is an Adobe Standard profile for the X1 but not for the S2. That is to say, the X1 is officially supported whereas the S2 is not as yet. Being DNG native cameras naturally you can work with the files, you just get only the embedded profile. GlennB Posted March 30, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 30, 2010 I have n older Mac G5 with Power PC chips, I tried to download Lightroom 3 beta 2 but the installer said it only works with Intel based chipped Macs . Lightroom 2 will work with Power PC Macs but I would like to use the new/improved LR3 when it comes available. Does anyone know if the final version of Lightroom 3 will be Intel only ??
