jsrockit Posted March 12, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm interested in buying a Leica Standard. I've used a screwmount Leica or two in the past, but never one without a rangefinder. I find the standard intriguing and feel it is time to try one. What should I look out for when buying one and which is the cheapest variation? Also, the viewfinder that's built in... what lens length is it for? Thanks. luigi bertolotti Posted March 12, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2010 The viewfinder is for a 50mm lens; the Leica Standard was produced, basically unchanged, from 1932 to about 1950... I think that if one wants an item to use, is better to find a good postwar one: being it rather simple (no RF/VF) the most important thing to verify, of course, is the shutter + film advance mechanism. It was made in thousands and thousands, and many spare parts do exist, so it's always a repairable camera.
jsrockit Posted March 12, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted March 12, 2010 Thanks Luigi. Is there a definitive source on the web with all info about these cameras? I can only seem to find scattered info.
luigi bertolotti Posted March 12, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 12, 2010 The really complete informations can be found in books (Lager, Laney...), here Leica camera instruction manuals, leicaflex camera instruction manual you can find a manual which includes the Standard too ("Leica Leitz - Directions..."); www.Summilux.net is a good site, too.
