Well here I am, all happy with my M8 and decided to buy a Fuji 6x17 around July, having time to happily gather some money, which is roughly 3500€ or around...

So I started to think ( funny things happen ) - wait a second, if I put a bit more and sell my M8, I could get a M9 and although completly different beasts, I think its wiser to pay that money for a camera that I would use it A LOT rather than a camera (M9) that just comes out on special ocasions ( 6x17 ).

Emailed my prefered dealer ( FFORDES ) and July or August was the date given... The started with RedDotCameras, RobertWhite, etc etc and all gave me the same more or less.

Oh and also they gave me a ridiculous price for my M8. Expected but still ridiculous.

I talked to a friend of mine, hes a pro photographer and introduced me to Colorfoto ( biggest pro shop in Portugal ) manager and said for him to make a discount on my M9-to-be.

This was on last Thursday, around 15,00.

Friday at 11.00 am he calls me saying "well, got 5 M9's here and one has your name on it".

I was stumbled and asked him how he could get so many M9's where the best shops in Europe and starving and he just said "you want more than one?" and laughed.

So two things :

- damn a M9 is coming and I will have a furious wife .

- anyone might want to look on that store if you want a M9 and you are in some backorder list and didnt pay a deposit

My M8 is sold to Finland and waiting for the bank to tell me the money is here and I go pick up my brand new black M9...

Ha, what a great story! Enjoy the new member of the family (your wife will soon get over it...)

I'm pretty much lucky man.. as long it doesnt get in the way of a holiday, shes SOMEWHAT fine with it... :) me thinks... eheheh

I wonder if they have any M9's left. I guess I could take a vacation and finally get my M9

Out of those ? Nope, call him today to confirm that I will take the M9 since I sold my M8 over the weekend and I'm just waiting for the bank transfer from the buyer, he told me that "no worries, I'm holding that one for you. for the other ones, all gone". Quite impressed because although I come recommended from a friend, I didn't paid a single euro as a deposit and this all been through the phone - he never saw me , I never went to the shop. I can ask him if you like how fast he can get a second M9.

It sure seems like Europe is getting more cameras (or has shorter waiting lists) then the US. Do they have lenses too?

Yap, they do. I think the secret is shorter waiting lists. There are quite fewer M9 buyers in Europe than in the US.

Also, don't know if Portuguese orders have some kind of priority - afterall, they are made here.....

Proenca,

Glad you managed to get an M9. Yes, Colorfoto is the same shop that got my M9 back on Christmas eve, and a very good pro shop for shopping all kinds of items, Leica included. Good online service also, by the way. And do not forget that the Leica plant where the M9 is made is nearby (15 minutes from my home - visited recently again and was very impressed), but everything goes through Germany, of course.

Colorfoto carries the full line of Leica stuff, and I am sure that they can get whatever you may need. Last week I saw a Noctilux 0.95 being picked up and my 75/2 will arrive next week.

Im quite surprised how easy it was to get an M9. I'm reading horror stories everywhere and even my main dealer ( ffordes ) has trouble in getting them - I lived quite a few years in the UK and have spent thousands both in Aperture and in FFordes.

So I call Colorfoto, although recommended by a friend to the shop manager, and he gets me a M9 in less than 24 hours...

I'm talking about the Lisboa store .. guess you are talking about Colorfoto Porto.. both a good and same company.

So, if someone wants a M9 , I guess being someone from abroad a deposit will be required, let me know and I can ask them how fast can they get one.

I agree, it does seem like Europe has more M9's available than anywhere else. I had been on a waiting list in Australia for months and happened to be in Innsbruck (Austria not Australia) a few weeks ago. I walked into a local camera shop (Miller Optik) who just happened to be the Leica dealer. I "jokingly" asked if they had any M9's in stock and the salesman asked me to wait a few minutes while he made a phone call. He came back and said no they didn't have one in stock, but they could have one in the store the very next day. Sure enough the next day I walked out with a new M9, four lenses and a SF58 flash.....it is possible!

When I read these posts I realize how lucky I was last year. My M8 was stolen from my house and I needed to replace it. The insurance took some time to settle the claim and when I received the settlement, the M9 was announced.

I was ecstatic, such good news, now I could replace the M8 with a M9!:D. I checked websites in Hong Kong (where I purchased my M8 a year before) as South Africa is ludicrously expensive for Leica equipment.

I immediately booked a plane ticket over along weekend and flew to Hong Kong with my wife (we made a little holiday of it) and in hindsight I now know how stupid it was not contacting any dealers!

After taking a shower at the hotel I went camera hunting - knowing where the dealers were as I priced my M8 a year earlier. I was shocked when dealer after dealer gave me the same price but alas NO STOCK!

Fortunately I managed to get my hands on the only unit in Hong Kong on 25 September - although I had to pay a little premium over the listed price - which I gladly did as returning empty handed would have been more expensive - AND disappointing! :)

I have grown very fond of the camera after some hick-ups and use it constantly!

Greeting to all from a new user, in Hong Kong.

It is a Leica M9 wasteland here, sad to say, and unfortunate for anyone coming here thinking it is a shoppers' paradise.

I wish I'd thought of calling Portugal! In fact, I've done the deal via Richard Caplan in London and (again, to my amazement) the price, with shipping, beats the Hong Kong price by about 15%, and delivery by about 6 months. Delivery was 6 weeks.

If I can help, let me know. M9´s are coming steadily into the market, and that is readily apparent in Portugal. Also, I live 15 minutes away from the factory... and I can say that Leica is doing a superb job to meet market demand both in terms of bodies and lenses.

I wanted to get my second body last week and out of curiosity I called one of my favourite dealers Leica Shop in Austria. They had one on stock and could send to me following day. I rushed to the bank hoping that I really got lucky, just to found out that my wife has paid a deposit for our new kitchen. So ..I had to let it go….But the conclusion is that M9 is there, waiting time should be much shorter if any.

In Norway there are 5 or 6 silver M9 listed here: www.bresson.no

Prices are stiff in this country, but foreign orders may deduct the 24% Value Added Tax.

Cheers

William

You have to keep your story consistent. Your e-mail was not at Yahoo, but at live.cn.. The mail at Bresson runs through their own website, there is no reason why any program could not deliver it. But then, the recipient may have blocked Yahoo, Hotmail, etc, That is a rather unlikely scenario for a commercial site, however.
