X1 Spare Lens Cap?

Thanks. I haven't lost mine yet but like having a backup just in case. I don't think my dealer has X1 replacement caps yet considering how slow the camera and accessories has come to market.

A generic slip-on cap (flexible rubber or plastic) in 54mm will go over the removable ring around the lens and will provide less depth than the Leica cap. If you're willing to remove the removable ring around the lens, a 50mm will fit. This second solution makes the camera much thinner--about half the lens protection of the Leica setup.

That's an idea. A search on the internet came up with this one http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/475565-REG/B_W_65069701__300_54mm_Push_On_Lens.html

The spare cap listed in the X1's Owner's manual are not yet stocked by Leica Camera USA Allendale, unless you tell them it was not included in the scope of the delivery of the product. You can get from web retailers stuff like handgrip, spare battery, cases, etc... some of which I suspect are gray market merchandising, but who cares anyway. I did a home brew contraption to tether the cap to the side of the body. You may like it, or may hate it, but it is the best interim solution I got. Please read under "Lost my lens cap..." elsewhere in the X1 Forum. The supplied lens cap got a flaw: the detente tabs sticks out of the outer circumferential rim of the lens barrel, and it is susceptible to be knocked/bumped off, which is exactly what had happened to me. I have also read elsewhere that the optional leather case (Leica Product 18709) will interfere with the cap tabs, so when you open the case, the lens cap will come off inadvertently, depending whether you leave the tabs horizontally, vertically or somewhere in between positions... very, very annoying indeed specially after paying another 139.99 for it.

I must not be using mine right, because my lens cap is very tight. I'd have to knock into something for it to pop off. I try to avoid that. ;)

NOOOO....perhaps we all got the defective lens cap AND you got the perfect one! Did you think about that?

No, I think you guys are just rough and rugged with your cameras and I'm very relaxed and leisurely. :D
