eduardoho Posted March 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since March 3, 2010 I have taken over 100 shots with X1, and indeed she is a cute sweet babe, albeit a cunning one, with ability to capture serious quality photos. However the tactility of the f-Stop/speed dials, the on/off lever, back electronic buttons & 4way shortcut are serious impediments. It is hard to grab the body without pressing any of the buttons or upsetting the dials. The 4way shortcut is where your thumb typically rest so as you grab the body you got to press the shortcuts. I was wondering if an electronic lock out would be a plausible solution to this irritating quirk? (besides the costly hand grip) Any thoughts out there? jsrockit Posted March 7, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 7, 2010 Welcome to the world of modern, digital cameras. Seriously, they all have so many buttons and fiddly knobs, that you are going to hit something by accident at times. Just be thankful that Leica kept their digital cameras minimal in design. NZDavid Posted March 7, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 7, 2010 Absolutely right! My Ricoh GR-D has an "adj" exposure compensation button that is very easy to nudge. Only afterwards have I sometimes noticed it has been set to plus or minus 1 or 2 by mistake. Cell phones and remote controls are worse for fiddly buttons. The X1 looks to be the most minimalist digital compact around -- although I am thinking it is a semi-mythical camera, as there is no sign of it on this side of the planet and no-one has any idea of when it might be available. jsrockit Posted March 12, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 12, 2010 Ok, I received mine today and I have to say I don't have any issues with the buttons and dials at all. Seems to be a very well laid out and I have no idea why people would be so picky with this. Could the dials be stiffer? sure. Are they so loose that they are "feather touch" ... no. larbel Posted March 12, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 12, 2010 There is build variation on the X1.. I've had two X1s, one with early 3812xxx serial and the button were much looser than my latter 3813xxx serial. Maybe it was a running change to the manufacturering process, but the dials felt different between the two.
damnsharp Posted March 12, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 12, 2010 I have with mine X1 (serial 3812071) has absolute no problems with the dails. I've made 250 pictures with it.

larbel Posted March 12, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 12, 2010 I think the first public production unit is late 3811xxx, which means so far, Leica has only shipped like 3,000 units of the X1 worldwide....
jpmac55 Posted March 12, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 12, 2010 Mine work fine, too. Since there are only two dials, I usually check the settings anyway.

eduardoho Posted March 13, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted March 13, 2010 My Serial No. is 3813498 and I got in 03Mar2010 shipped by Leica Camera USA Allendale NJ. Actually the soft dials are my secondary problem, for I noticed that the right hand side leatherette is start to pull away, the edge against the SD/battery cover is fraying and eventually peel off. May be my glue did not dry yet and they shipped it out anyway...LOL:eek:
Mark2 Posted March 15, 2010 Share #13 Posted March 15, 2010 since the leather is peeling, I suggest you get a new one:)
