Taping over the X1 red dot for stealth mode

It's easy to tape over the dot on a black or chrome M but the X1 presents a unique problem, it's half n half!!

I guess the only answer is to use two pieces of tape, but that makes it twice as costly to do this operation, on a cheaper camera!!

Perhaps we can start a tape bank - if one member buys two rolls of tape to do their camera they could pass the rolls onto another memeber for cost less X plus postage? Or maybe one of the aftermarket accessory manufactuers could produce a single piece of round tape in the required design?

As always, there's an easy alternative. Simply choose a tape with a color which naturally blends into the design of the camera and wrap it around the two parts of the body, like that:

Sorry, I have not learned yet how to add purple splotches to my drawings.

Most of the picture is by Leica, BTW, and included here only for discussion of the product.

I propose using sand paper to sand off the logo on the camera body and the lens. This might take some time but is well worth it in the end. After all, why flaunt an expensive camera?

caution: using the sand paper may also take off some of the finish on the camera. You could scratch the lens with the sand paper so do it carefully. After that you will have a forum

authorized "stealth" camera.

I find this post to be hilariously funny, no pun intended though. I used to stroll around here in the streets of NY with my old Leica C point & shoot, and no one really realized how coveted of a brand Leica was. They used to ask me what kind of camera it was, and my reply was a Chinese camera. Well, yesterday afternoon, I just walked all over the lower Manhattan with my brand new 2 grand plus X1, and only one old man commented by asking me whether it was an old rangefinder, and my reply was YES a Chinese made rangefinder camera! On the other hand I did painted my Nikon/Olympus brandnames with water soluble flat paint for plastic models by Tamya (NOT TESTORS), they got a children safe product line and a whole sleuth of comprehensive color tone. Just make sure you don't get soaked under rain, but you can really repaint again in your hotel room. Have fun.

Man, please tell me you guys know the OP is joking and is making fun of the X1 section...

What makes you think I jest? This is an often discussed topic on the M8/9 forums so it's bound to be a more complicated issue for the stealthy X1 photographer.

Who will be first to show off their black dot X1? I throw down the gauntlet!

Come on, I know you original forum guys are dissing all of the X1 newbies... I like the joke though... stealth is so damn silly.

Not at all; I'm absolutely green with envy; 1600 euro for a modern Instamatic might seem a trifle steep but hey, folks here can afford that.

I'll plod on with my C-Lux3 toy camera. btw, it has a wonderful leather case (C-Lux2 actually) and I can stick a rangefinder on with a blob of blue-tack. Oh, and the zoom runs from 24mm to 125mm equiv. :)

Equally as silly. However, I'm of the opinion that the world doesn't really give a shit what you have for the most part... only camera geeks care.

How stealth is a mercedes with the star logo removed.

Does not suddenly make it look like a Kia does it:rolleyes:

Another Korean brand doesn't even have a badge for its new luxury model. See: 2009 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 | The Truth About Cars

It may be a good car, but looks bland. You also see some BMWs and Benzes shorn of their model numbers. The three-pointed star and the Bavarian blue and white says enough. Über-discreet! Some watches are also available san logo.

For Leica, I suggest the best option would be to offer the X1 as a special edition "logo-less" version --- naturally, at a higher price, so photogs can show off their more anonymous and invisible camera.
