Ok maybe this is silly but...

I have been reading where several of us take real pride in our Leica/s and have bought accessories or "Pimped Out" our little black or silver box. Which made me think how cool would it be if I could have a really nice camera bag with matching strap and matching half case all which would be unique...custom made with some elements I feel would be done with my input.

Am I silly or how many others would also like to have a matching accessories?

I think it is a legitimate thought--looks are part of the M8's appeal for many of us, function aside.

You can make all kinds of arguments about looks not being relevant, but I know I want my Caterham 7's body completely in bare aluminum like the prototypes (and 50s aircraft), including bespoke aluminum nosecone, rear wheel arches, rollbar, and windscreen surround. :D

One school of the rangefinder aesthetic is to stack, add on, and otherwise have a patchwork of intentionally mismatched items that work together to add bolt-on functionality. From the gizmos that slide into the camera's hotshoe, grips, and strange vented lens hoods through to the multi-pocketed, clasped, and strapped bags. (Think Fogg.) This is a retro/steampunk ethos of sorts--mismatched stuff cobbled together.

To your point, a completely matched camera body covering, half-case, strap, and bag is an interesting thought and would look very integrated.

I would say that you should consider going for an absolutely minimalist look if you head down this path--with as few pockets/zippers/openings as possible. The Safari or "iPod" White M8s, with matching-color cases and bags, I think could lend themselves to this approach very naturally and look urban-modern retro sharp.

Reach out to Luigi--I understand that he really likes doing bespoke work like you're suggesting. (Except for the body covering, which you'd likely obtain from cameraleather.)

That's if you want leather.

An all-synthetic, SWAT M8 (think custom-made ruggedized/rubberized body covering + ballistic nylon half-case and bag) would be cool, also.

Cheers,

Will

Why stop at the camera - think leather suit, shoes, hat, belt, go for the full monty, why not?! Better that a 'stealth' bit of gaffer tape!

I think that is a great idea! :D

Gaffer tape is for sissies though...that is one thing I will never understand and find ridiculous

Ok off to find a shoe maker now ;)

I have the ala carte black leather strap from Leica for my chrome M8. I also bought the lug covers from Luigi's for the strap lugs. I store my M8 in the black leather ever-ready case but do not take the ever ready out with me. My set-up looks very 1970s, like something my father would have!

I'm looking to pick up a black Billingham Leica bag one of these days.
