London 27th March

As I mentioned in a previous post I'm available on both dates and happy to meet up on both dates.

A variation on James's theme might be to take a relaxing 50 minute canal boat from Camden to Little Venice (One way £6.50, return trip £9.50). I know of a nice old pub near Little Venice called the Warwick Castle, which has plenty of room, a snug, a good range of beers, mostly dark wooden wall, wooden tables and bentwood chairs throughout.

Another possibility might be the Head of the River Race, which is 8-man crews racing from Mortlake to Putney, and is occurring on 27th March this year. (Watching rather than competing btw!)

And a third possibility is the London Chocolate Festival behind the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank, which is likely to be rich with photo opportunities of people smiling.

... or we could simply spend some time in a suitable venue and over refreshments and discuss whether our watches go backwards or forwards that weekend. :)

Just some thoughts ...

Pete.

Hi James

No all the ideas are truly excellent, all we need is

- more than one person

- a time and place to meet and

- PM exchange of mobile numbers, just in case.

So anyone for 27th & where?

I'd normally do the Lt Venice/Trellic Tw/Portobello Rd on Sat, CamdenMk has occasional 'excitement' now days and has more Plod consequently, think it is drg-rehab in community day. Drummond street for Hindu curry apres.

  • 2 weeks later...

Having kicked off this thread I duly disappeared into a tunnel called work and I honestly haven't had the time to think or plan anything. What is more my creativity is exhausted at present so I am willing to meet anyone, somewhere at 11:00AM or thereafter in London if anyone is able to suggest a meeting point.

Having said that - has anyone ever done Highgate???

Meet at the tube at 11:00 - walk around Highgate, hit one of several nice pubs by midday?

Just a thought - or else if Farnz wants to suggest a meeting or end point for boat idea, I'm not too keen on a canal trip but I would meet up at the pub.

Highgate et al sounds like an excellent idea, Louis. Do you mean the public section with Karl Marx's tomb?

The private section is the more visually interesting imho but we'd have to take part in an organised tour, which might prove challenging in light of the previous meetings' modus operandi of 'wander at will'. The curators get a bit touchy if you stray from the group.

Are you suggesting meeting at Archway tube station at 11 am?

David, Peter and anyone else - a plan is formed.

I suggest we do meet at Archway tube station at 11AM. It is a bit of an effort to get up the hill to Highgate but well worth it, especially as we can stop off at Suicide Bridge on the way. Then we could wander the high street of Highgate and end up down at Karl Marx's tomb before retiring to a pub for refreshments.

Any more takers? A select few is fine but there is room for all-comers.

We seem to be missing a few regulars, though.

Louis,

The post title is "Re: London 27th March", but the 10th April has also been mentioned, could you please confirm which date the meeting is so that there's no confusion.

George

George

You are right. I lost the thread of the thread!

I hope this is not going to confuse or exasperate anyone but I've been talking about meeting this Saturday the 27th of March and not April 10th.

If it is this Saturday, how does that affect everyone who has so far responded????

Once more for clarity:

11:00 at Highgate Tube Station (not Archway as previously described) on 27th March.

Louis
