jaapv Posted March 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 1, 2010 I would ask this on a Nikon forum or Steve's Digicams
GFONG Posted March 1, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 1, 2010 May consider to get the Leica DLux 4 or Panasonic LX3.
Jerry_R Posted March 1, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 1, 2010 pray to god that my eyes keep on going Better let's pray that Leica will release another line with LV\EVF. Then we still would be able to focus with weak sight and use Leica glass. Let your brother check Lumix GF1. Also - next model after Lumix G1 is to be released in few days. Then he could attach Leica glass for standard and tele focals. Unfortunately not wide.
gearoido Posted March 1, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 1, 2010 Another place to look at Nikon (and other cameras) is DXOMark.com. They measure and judge the sensors in a great many cameras.
sandymc Posted March 1, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 1, 2010 None of the Nikons are, IMHO, "bad" - it just depends what you want. Between the D3000 and and the D5000, the D3000 has the previous generation Nikon sensor and image processing; the D5000 the latest generation CMOS sensor, the same as the D300, and very, very similar to the X1. The big thing to be aware of with both the D3000 and the D5000 is that they are not very manual operation friendly, not enough dials, so you have to go through menus. If you want to be able to easily adjust ISO,shutters speed, etc, etc you need the higher-end Nikons that have lots of dials and are designed for manual operation. 250swb Posted March 1, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) If your brother prefers the idea of a smaller camera he could look at the Olympus EP-2. It will take all m4/3 lenses from both Olympus and Panasonic and can be fitted with an EVF. Unlike Nikon or Canon DSLR kit lenses in the same price range m4/3 lenses are very good performers.
