yuweimichael Posted March 4, 2010 Author Share #21 Posted March 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yeap I wonder why everyone is talking about cars......sorry Leica Fans.....next time I will choose other subject. . .People get " RED EYES" when they see something too nice and off the subject. We all understand the situation. SO, anyone think about to buy Leica x1 after you see the result of the image ? Is that really creates best image in compact camera class and semi-DSLR ? stephan_w Posted March 4, 2010 Share #23 Posted March 4, 2010 Is that really creates best image in compact camera class and semi-DSLR ? how to judge from those photos? In the bright sun, nearly every camera is able to produce good photos (from a technical point of view). Yeap I wonder why everyone is talking about cars......sorry Leica Fans.....next time I will choose other subject Well, we almost all LOVE cars, don't we? So I think the subject is not that off topic as you may think. I think its a bit the kind of how to show the subject, and the subject itself that is controversal. Personally, I'm really concerned by the (missing) esthetic of this car, not it's price or the fact that it is a SUV. And then, maybe, it's again the way of making photos. Even if the X1 is a "point and shoot" camera, some minor attention to the composition will be helpful. The detail photos of the motor and the wheel are really nice. MPJMP Posted March 4, 2010 Share #24 Posted March 4, 2010 Everything Porsche makes is beautiful, in my opinion. A very nice motorcar, and a very nice digital camera to photograph it with!!
ezc203 Posted March 8, 2010 Share #25 Posted March 8, 2010 SO, anyone think about to buy Leica x1 after you see the result of the image ? Is that really creates best image in compact camera class and semi-DSLR ? To be frank, the reason no one is talking about the capabilities of the X1 on this thread is purely because these photos don't really show anything about the camera. These pictures may as well have been taken with an iPhone. None of the four shots really demonstrate the strength of the camera or push it to its limits. Its like asking people to assess Michael Jordan's superior basketball skill by making him shoot free throws on a gold-plated hoop.

I see a few things from these pics that I like, namely that the lens is sharp and that the bokeh is nice at times. It may not be your type of photography or mine, but to say they could've been taken with an iPhone is rough. I do understand what you are trying to say though... show what the X1 can do that other cameras in its class can't. That's cool and all, but when I get my X1 this week, I won't be testing it for the sake of the forum... I'll be making the photos I want to make regardless of if some other camera could do the same photos.
Rona!d Posted March 8, 2010 Share #27 Posted March 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is an interesting thread, boys with their toys:D I know cars from Gallardo to Mini and cameras from S2 to X1, every job needs it´s own tools. When going off road I´d prefer a classic Range Rover though, when driving to the Polo field, a Cayenne GTS might also fit. Personally i don´t like bling blings, but who are we to judge others joy? You can never do wrong unless you feel comfortable with it! p.s. Michael thanks for your shots, tomorrow I´ll try the X1 on cars. I like the color of your GTS. I suppose my comment was on the harsh side (maybe its the jetlag mixed with long hours of working), but I think my allusion/simile extends to cover what you said here. Its not that Michael's not good at shooting free-throws, he is, probably one of the best, but that's just not the reason why people talk about him. Similarly, its not that the photos in this thread was bad (and my apologies to the OP, I did not mean to offend or insult), but it's just not anything that would separate the X1 from its competition. eduardoho Posted March 9, 2010 Share #29 Posted March 9, 2010 Does this thread reflect the true position of Leica cameras in this century? Not used in war zones, or photo-journalism anymore, but as a luxury item to take photographs of the lifestyles of those who purchase luxury items.Doing Tina Barney's job for her. Philosophically I share the comments as posted, for my intention is to use my X1, in real field conditions, taking subsurface pictures of inside active sewer lines, but alas Leicas are not ruggerized, nor weatherproofed and not intrinsically safe for use in hazardous environment, thereby absent from any of major reportage events, much less in the combat zones. Other than elite photographers, and well to do socialites, no Leica is being used by ordinary folks at large. So what is the Leica Camera AG's position in our society? For Ernst Leitz II open defiance decision to save 300 Jewish factory employees, and for this honorable deed the Jewish Anti Deflamation League has bestowed posthumously the highest honor...why can't Leica continue from this noble perspective and become socially meaningful by making practical photography equipment, so that once in life events can be captured and preserved?
