Advertisement Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Hi jcbjr, Take a look here M8 in stock . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
philevans Posted December 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 15, 2006 I was checking on the off chance earlier and saw that they had stock. I just ordered mine, so I hope it's not an error. I did speak to the guy on the phone, and he told me that it was there, so fingers crossed. Can anyone tell me what I should look for to know whether it has had the hardware fix and firmware update? Thanks Phil
sagarwal Posted December 15, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 15, 2006 Already "out of stock". Wonder if they found out there's a direct correlation between a sudden surge of traffic on their site and the subsequent unavailability of the M8
sdh Posted December 15, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 15, 2006 They're already out of stock (10:50 AM EST). Bummer!

Thanks Phil my guess would be that dealing with b&h you're probably getting the "fixed" version of the camera, including firmware 1.09 (perhaps 1.10, but not likely). best way to determine hardware fix might be to call leica when you get camera and tell them serial number. john
davidmires Posted December 15, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 15, 2006 Can anyone tell me what I should look for to know whether it has had the hardware fix and firmware update? Thanks Phil The firmware version is shown in the camera menu. If it is firmware 1.09 or later, it has the updated hardware. Cheers
Stevez4 Posted December 15, 2006 Share #7 Posted December 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received my second M8 yesterday. It came with 1.09 although the dealer told me it would be 1.10. I compared to my first M8 which has 1.06. I can't tell the difference in color photographs. The white balance is off in both. The booklet with it advises owners to use filters with 1,10 for lenses 35 and wider. But thee is no 1.00 software and no filter available. Unbelievable. I am leaving the country on assignment next week with two digital M's ($10,000 worth) of unfixed digital cameras.

Stevez4 Posted December 16, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 16, 2006 They'll get the M8 fixed. Its just not ready for prime time. It is going to take time, but I believe it will be worth it. They are taking care of the big guns of the forum before us ordinary folks.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 16, 2006 Share #10 Posted December 16, 2006 I think your forgetting the DMR and it's success. I did also buy 2 M8's so us pro's must be idiots I guess. We ALL have backups and a Plan B , Plan C in place. I woud have backup's for the canons and Nikons also
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 16, 2006 Share #11 Posted December 16, 2006 Your assuming he has nothing else in his closet to shoot with. It's his freaking neck on the line not yours. So why do you question him and his sense of responsibility to his work. that is my point. It is not your business but his
canlogic Posted December 16, 2006 Share #12 Posted December 16, 2006 Well they do have experience with digital what do you think the DMR is? I don't own one but to me that is very innovative, they could bring out the DMR2 and you wouldn't have to replace the whole camera. Also for every bad story on the M8 there are 25 good stories. I have not had one issue with mine since I got it. Now I don't generally shoot subjects that would be affected by them but still if I hadn't read about them here I probably wouldn't have known about them. There are some some problems but it seems that the biggest complainers are the ones who don't own the camera.
osera Posted December 16, 2006 Share #13 Posted December 16, 2006 I don't think that they are complaining. Seems more like gloating. (That probably won't translate well...) I, too, find very few negatives and many many positives with my shooting styles. I wouldn't want anyone to extend that to their way of shooting, because I wouldn't know what that is. The ir issue is dealt with in a way that is satisfactory to me.
